Default speedometer bounces

ok speedometer quit and i got a new vss sensor from orielly's and installed it works fine until i hit about 40mph then it starts bouncing around like a cat on crack and the faster i go the worse it gets. Checked the few threads on this subject but looking for more input.

thanks for any help in advanced.

Pull the sensor and check for iron filings on the magnetic end...

sounds like a output speed sensor on your tranny make sure your yoke nut is tight and you have proper tolerance if your nut is loose tighten and take your sensor in until it bottoms out and back out a 1/4 turn if that doesnt work maybe a new sensor

the only sensor on my tranny looks alot like the vss sensor ..is that the one you are talking about or am i missing one somewhere ..and now that i have the camshaft sensor fixed again i'll check for shavings as suggested. oh one more thing ..the new sensor has like flat sides on it where the old one was perfectly round? is there multiple sensors for this rear end?

Its top side of the pumpkin. X2 on the others advice. That "tolerance" is a distance issue as it is a proximity sensor and dependant on its distance of its internal magnet and the metal surface it's trying to read (magnetism) too far or too close and it wont read properly and the collection of metal filings on the sensor (attracted by its internal magnet) throw off the reading or just confuse its sensor reading...
