Default cold start

ok, I checked voltage of both batteries and they are both over 12 volts. checked relay and it is functioning properly, ie over 12volts when turn key on. before I change the glowpugs is there another piece of the puzzle I should check? I understand the harnesses are prone to going bad? I wann check all the easy stuff before i pull the plugs out. Thanks

yes. even when the truck is plugged in it will smoke a little when it starts. can also smell what seems to be unburnt fuel in the exhaust. the last 97 I had did same thing until my buddy discoavered a short in harness(intermtant) that ccontrolled high pressure oil pump. I havent found that to be true with this truck. 128000 miles. maybe time for injectors but fuel milage and power dont seem to be affected once it warms up. I have a hypertech programmer and its programmed to stage three. just installed afe cold air intake cause I blew up the stock one when I put too much starting fluid in. forgot to plug it in and would not start.

I know there is a way to test glow plugs, by resistance. However, i have not tried this method.
