I've got a 95 7.3 (regular cab, long bed, 4x4, auto trans) it has 136,000 stock original miles.

My problem:

A few weeks ago i went out and started the truck.it was about 30° and cycled the plugs once fired right up running great. Went inside to get ready for work came out and the truck was off. I tried restarting it but it just cranked and cranked. After about five minutes and numerous tries it fired up but ran like crap. It eventually cleared up. Went to leave and died again. About a week later i got a new dark grey cps from ford hoping that was the issue. Put it on the truck and tried to start it. This time it cranked and puffed out alit of white smoke and eventually fired up. Ran rough for about a minute and leveled out and ran perfect. Around 15 minutes later i started to notice it run rough again(almost like a miss but not sure to be honest). I put my foot on the accelerator and got the rpms up tp about 2000 and from there the rpms slowly fell untill it died(foot to floor had no effect).

What I've checked so far:

1. replace cps
2.checked fuel filter and fpr screen
3.oil level
4.air filter
5.gpr...(battery side 12v... key on other large post 10.5v... key on small post nothing...key on other small post 11.6v then instant drop to .5v)
6.harness from idm to valve covers(all injector power feeds ohm at 2.9... idm ground circuit infinty resistance.... injector ground shield infinity resistance... open circuit between injector power feed pins.... pin 26 im picking up an open circuit to all grounds on the truck though).
7. yes i have fuel filled up the night before all this happened.


At this point im chasing my tail and need some help. The uvch to both go bad at the same time and be sonewhat intermittent is hard to believe. The gpr is also throwing me for loop. Any imput and ideas/suggestions would begreatly appreciated. thanks

 

Im not sure on your actual dying issue... But you do have a bad gpr... Have you checked fuel pressure?
