Hey folks,
I don't know if I'm doing this thread thing right or not. I would appreciate any input from this input. I have a 2006 F-250 6.0L Diesel. I had an EGR cooler failure which also impacted my OEM Turbo.
I changed the EGR cooler with a Dorman lifetime warranty stainless steel unit and replaced the Turbo with another OEM Garrett TurboCharger.
I looked at aftermarket Turbo but don't reall need any increase in power and such.
The problem: I have a coolant leak at the hose between the EGR cooler tube and the connection on the valley pan. It's at the small hose that connects the cooler into the valley pan. The hose is only 2-1/2 inches long or so and sits just under the Turbo.
First is there supposed to be coolant running through the hose? Second there are really no "clamps" tightening this thing down. It looks like there are "O" rings inside the hose attachments. My son and I are doing this work. We were pretty much done just putting the fluids in and found this leak.
We've primed the Turbo with oil, serviced the filters and we are just about ready to fire it up. Just this pesky leak. Is it possible the "O" rings inside the hose will seal after it warms up. Probably wishful thinking but hey???
Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks,
Whitey Cook

Hey Folks,
just wanted to follow up over the weekend. My son and I finally got the leak fixed. We changed the "O" rings inside the hose coupler and lifted the tabs to get a better connection. Don't know which fixed what but now have no leaks.
We got everything back together and fired it up. No codes being set but I'm wondering. Does the Turbo have to go through a "break in" period or do I now have a different problem.
We took it for a gentle drive and the Turbo does not seem to be kicking in. I get a lot of black smoke and it bogs down. Not hearing the Turbo much at all. We came back home and opened the hood. I revved it to about 2000RPM and got some what appeasrs to be exhaust smoke from somewhere around the Turbo area.
Do we have a clamp not seated properly or something else???
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tired on Oklahoma but at least it runs.
