Default F-450

I am a new guy looking at buying a new 08' F-450 King Ranch, but I have heard these 450's are getting 6-10 mpg at best? Does anyone own one, and what can be done to change this problem? Change the gears?

not much you can do, they use a Dana 110 rear axle i believe, and they have deep gears, 4.11, 4.56, 4.88, and i think 5.13.......i dont think you can get a lower numerical gear for them aftermarket.......

remove the DPF and CATS and get a programmer -- that will help your mileage greatly! (BUT you will LIKELY LOSE YOUR WARRANTY)

The low gearing and dpf is what kills the 450 in mpg. but its still a f-450

It collects soot from the exhaust. That's why when you look at a new trucks tailpipe it should be clean. Eventually it will fill up with soot, thus the engine injects more fuel to heat up the exhaust gas temperatures to burn off the soot.

Thanks guys, I know what a particulate is, I did not know dpf was an abreviation for it. I appreciate all the feedback, and that picture was badass! There needs to be a thread opened with photos of 450's! I wish you could have more exterior color choices with the King Ranch series, especially when you are spending that much!
