Default Well

as long as your donor truck had the trans, pcm, ficm, wiring harness and all the other goodies it would be feesable. The hardest part is all the wiring. It would be cool. I would go with an '04 1/2 and up just to make it easier on you.

Face it guys none of us really know how good or bad the new 6.4 is going to be. The 6.0 was a disaster for Ford, and there is still tons of rumors about this motor that is keeping sales of used 6.0 at a record low pace. Now with that said I personally don't have a clue if those rumors are true or not. I have a friend with a 6.0 and nobody could ask for better service from a truck than he has gotten, on the other hand another friend bought his 6.0 truck on the advice of the first friend and that truck and motor could not be worse.

I "HAD" a 2008 F-450 with the new 6.4 motor, my problems with that truck had nothing what so ever to do with the motor. It was a King Ranch 4X4 with all of the bells and whistles. A beautiful truck I might add. Trouble was I bought this truck for the advertised almost 5,900 lb payload, way higher than my 2001 Dodge 3500 DRW which was at 3,300 lbs. Only thing about that payload it was a complete and total joke. If Ford thinks that they can say 5,900 lbs and its so, well they got another think coming. I hated that truck it would not do one tenth what my Dodge would do. It looked cool and that King Ranch leather is to die for, but Ford lie'd about the truck so I traded it on another Dodge with only 2,225 miles on it. And damn glad to see it GOOOO!!

i've heard that the vehicle manufactures rate the payload rating WITHOUT the bed or a full tank of fuel....... does anyone know the truth behind this? i heard this from a service manager at a dealership i use to sell cars for because i sold a new 1/2ton truck that was rated at XXXXlbs and he dearched a set of springs and we replaced them under warranty and told him next time it would be on him due to it being overloaded (he hauled produce) and after it was fixed he rode up to the farmers market and loaded his truck with all the weight centered over the rear axle...... it was loaded with 250 pounds LESS (weighed on certified scales) than the payload rating and it had almost de-arched the springs as the truck was sitting on the bumpstops in the rear. the manufacture's rep come down to look at it and his responce was take the payload rating, subtract the weight of the bed and a tank of fuel and that is the accual payload rating...... true or false guys?

EDIT - sorry for the highjack.....

I think --- key word being "Think" that that would be FALSE. The payload rating of any light duty pick-up and all 3500 as well as the F-450 Ford now being produced as a complete truck by FORD, are light duty trucks. These gain there "Payload" from there GVWR. As an example my 2001 HO 6 Speed Cummins Dodege had a GVWR of 11,000 lbs, the truck itself weiged on the scales with full fuel 7,700 lbs this gave me a useful payload of 3,300 lbs, in the Dodge. Ford advertises there new factory built F450 as having a 16,000 lb GVWR that is the way they come up with a payload of 6,120 lbs on 2X4 and 5,820 in 4X4. I think there figures are probably right as my F450 weighed with full fuel 8,256 lbs, so its close. Trouble was there is no way in the world that, that Ford truck would haul any where near that load.

Gunny
