Default Intakes difference?

Okay I've been researching about getting a tuner and exhaust, and intake for my 08 f350 so I can get better fuel mileage. Right now its saying 12.8mpg around town, high way is only up to 13, and it doesn't stay there long.. Would a S&B intake help get better fuel mileage? Or will I just have to save up and buy a tuner, and delete kits? If you have any setups you recommend that are 1.) safe, 2.) affordable!! let me know, because I've found some and can't find one that is somewhat cheap. Also wondering if just running the s&b intake with all stock components will hurt the truck? thanks!

You might as well start saving for a tuner and delete kits. With diesels when you increase power you increase mpg's. In order for a diesel to increase power it has to breathe. The DPF is your biggest enemy. If you think about the whole turbo system and how it works it assissts in forcing air into the cylinder and assissts in taking the exhaust out. The turbo does this in a more efficient and faster way than if the motor did not have it. The DPF is a large filter in the exhaust system that slows the exhaust from being expelled out the rear of the truck. Its the same theroy as placing a towel over the rear side of a fan, it causes the motor to work harder and doesnt produce the air it would if the towel wasnt there. If you invest the money into the tuner and delete kits you will see at least a 5 mpg increase around town dependant upon your driving habits. If you invest in an aftermarket air intake that will also help, but make sure its a good one and not a knock off. Check out the powerstroke help videos on youtube.
