6.0 build or trade in for a 6.4
ive had my eye on these 6.4's since they started production but wasnt ready to spend the extra 10 g's on these and bought a 6.0 unfortunatly. the 6.0 is constantly having problems with the hpop and injectors now im having problems with the wastegate and water pump. now im fixing to deploy for 6 months and come back and either rip my 6.0 out and rebuild it completely with injectors turbo bulletproof kit..... that or just trade it in on a newer 6.4 and do a dpf with some custom tunes, maybe a lift and some tires. what are your opinions. i had this post in the 6.0 section but im sure you 6.4 guys have no reason to look in that section
thanks in advance guys

Honestly...
Learn more about your truck. You're telling us you've having issues with parts that dont' even exist on a stock 6.0. The 6.4 is basically a 6.0 with a much more complicated fuel system and air system (two chargers instead of one).
You're not constantly having problems with HPOPs, you might have one die in 200k, and it's a $550 part. If you keep having problems with them more than that, someone is not putting it in right, or you're buying crappy parts.
It wouldn't take much to bulletproof your ride, is it worth the extra expense of a 6.4? That's up to you, but you may want to look into repair costs of 6.4's. They'll make a 6.0 repair look like childs play.
I don't mean to sound harsh, and I understand you're probably frustrated, but let's think about this logically. The reality is every truck is going to have issues and if those are the only issues you've had with your 6.0 you're doing pretty good. Stick around, read as much as you can, and learn your truck. It will make it much more enjoyable and less costly to own.

A 125 hp tune on a 6.4 is nothing... and a custom tuned 6.0 would outrun that. That's tiny.
Power wise, with nothing more than a tune, 6.4 is king for sure. I wouldn't say that's the only thing needed to bulletproof a 6.4 either. The 6.0 is a turd of a motor? The 6.4 and the 6.0 share a lot of common things...

Didn't realize he was looking for a race truck. I realize a custom tuned 6.0 would outrun the 6.4 on a 125hp tune he didn't ask which would outrun the other with this or that done. Yes the 6.0 is the biggest POS ever made what are the "common things" shared by the 6.0 and 6.4 as far as I know turbos are different, fuel system is different, injectors are different, heads are different, rotating assembly is different, I guess im just not seeing what youre saying with the sharing of common things. Tell me what else a 6.4 needs to be bulletproof for daily driving.

The heads are the same (obviously except for injector holes) but they're the same casting, it was part of the parts commonization. The 6.4 is basically a big bore 6.0. Obviously fuel and air systems are different (the 6.4 has a WAY more expensive fuel system). The HPFP's crap out on them sometimes, and they're expensive.
I wasn't knocking you about the 125hp tune, my point was that most guys with a 6.4 daily drive on the 210 tune and even tow with it, others are hot rodding on the 310's and 350 tunes.
The 6.4 I would still say is more reliable, but they share quite a bit with the 6.0 design that people overlook. Still a crummy 4 bolt her head design...
There were also issues with injectors and radiators on the job 1 trucks.

I like both of the motors if they're done right. I own a 6.0 right now, but I am in the process of selling it now. I myself am going to another 6.4. They're more powerful, a little more reliable if you do the deletes early on, and in my opinion look a little better too. Don't get me wrong i love both looks of the trucks but i guess it's the interior I like more!
