The OEM hose clamps on the EGR cooler are a JOKE! They are junk and can be replaced with a proper piece of heater hose and hose clamps for less than 5 bucks. Whether you buy an aftermarket cooler, an OEM cooler, or a cooler delete, you will need hose clamps. Well, not with a delete kit, they come with it.

That little 3" blue hose that goes from the EGR cooler to the oil cooler can leak, replacing it with a regular piece of heater hose and clamp should prevent this from happening, some of the factory ones last forever and some leak all the time.

Bobfbigman do I need to get a tuner later down the road?MY mechanic is telling me that I will start to throw codes down the road and have to replace the EGR Valve often . Why is he trying to get me to go to the upgraded EGR cooler, or keeping the stocker. He does not want me to spend a lot I got that , but if I save a lot down the road that is more important.

You will not be throwing codes, the later trucks will but it is a soft code meaning it does not affect the performance. He has no idea what he is talking about having to replace the EGR valve, there will no longer be exhaust gasses flowing through the cooler or to the valve. After 100k the valve will look like you just put it in there, with maybe a little oil on it from the crank case vent.

Will I be able to reuse the ARP head studs if I have to rebuild the bottom end at a much later date hopefully?

Yes, you should only torque to ARPs spec of 210ftlbs, the next time torque to 220ftlbs on rebuild, and you should be able to get one more use out of that. Follow there Spec the first time.

Thank you again for your knowledge. I hope I don`t ever need a second torque. I need this truck to last me another 179k at least. Service the truck like a mad man from now on and pray.

I have 254k on stock head bolts and the truck is no slow poke, keep up on oil changes and monitor the oil cooler status and you should be good up to 500k.
