Default Help!! Is this a glow plug harness leak?? Photos included

I have a 2004' 6.0. I am getting a burnt oil smell sometimes. I think the glow plug harness is leaking and dripping onto the exhaust manifold which is causing the smell and is why I don't see any drips on the ground.

Can the glow plugs be leaking or is it the harness that is leaking? Does the harness have o rings that make the seal. If anyone can explain how glow plugs and the harness seal and the best way to go about fixing this I would really appreciate it.

Thanks..

That really doesn't look that bad for an 04,check around your intercooler boots to see if oil is seeping out there, the only time I smell the hot oil smell is when my ccv tube comes out of the valve cover on the drivers side. Also check around the turbo real good to make sure it is dry on top and bottom.

I used some engine degreaser to clean the area which is why it looks kind of clean. There is oil coming out of the harness. I just don't know if its the harness or the glow plugs that is causing the leak.

I'll check the ccv.

the seals could be hard and letting oil by, you would have to replace the whole harness, think they are around a hundred bucks to get both sides. They are a pain to get out and will probably break. While you have it unhooked use a deep 10mm socket to make sure the glowplugs are tight, then replace with new harness, do a google search of images for the harness and you can see what they look like

Is it the glow plug or the glow plug harness that is leaking?

Correct me if I'm wrong but the glow plugs don't leak. Its the o ring on the harness that leaks?

Its the harness that is leaking, it sits in the valve area and is subject to hot oil. if the injector was leaking you would probably have a miss because it would let the compression blowby.

Correct me if I'm wrong but here is what I think you guys are saying.

Glow plugs don't leak.

Its the o ring on the harness that goes bad and leaks.

I'm not to sure what the response to the injector was but I'm sure that is not the problem.

Thanks guys..

Sorry I meant to say glowplug, not injector. Glowplugs can leak if they come loose of course but they won't leak oil to the outside of the motor, it is the sealing suface of the harness that is leaking, the only reason I mentioned the GPlug was since you were going to have access to it with the harness removed to go ahead and make sure they are nice and snug more as a maintinance thing. sorry for the confusion.
