bkmac, male or female, it sounds like the dealership is just trying to take advantage no matter what. A lot of people these days don't work on their own stuff, and a first time diesel owner would certainly be overwhelmed the first time they open their hood, I know I was. There's a lot going on under there if you don't know what is what.
I totally agree with the overwhelmed part, I include myself in that category. I also know that there are places that will try to take advantage of a female more then a guy based on their misconceptions that females know less about vehicles and engines.

Iron? IRON!?! Damn things always looked silver like aluminum in the head gasket posts I see. I LIKE TURTLES! A LOT OF TURTLES! Ther IS a lot going on under that hood, holy crap!

Hmm, guess it explains why guys say they are so damn hard to lift out.

On the up side, I know my NDI methods.

I LIKE TURTLES! Sometimes I wonder how I got this far in life. I'll just sit in the back of the short bus with my drool up and be quiet, except for an occassional "NAAAHHHH! I LIKE TURTLES! NAAHHHH!"

LOL, great post.

Duramax is the only one using aluminum heads, but still on an iron block. We've got good ol fashioned iron for the block and the heads. You sir are right, PITA to lift out by yourself, pushing 90lbs per head or so.

Ok the shop pretty much couldn't tell me why it was blowing off. So I went ahead and orderd that cac tube brace, I figure anything will help. Funny thing though, I called the place that's selling that brace and he told me he had the same problem and ford bought it back. Go figure! I always got the run around. As far as the exhaust leak goes they replaced my manifolds, I guess they were warped and was told looked like they had been droped. Got the sct live wire installed. I have been a little intimadated to change programs, they told me I was on tow. Supposedly they input my upgrades into it. It's deffenitly a lot quicker. And yes I am a guy. LargeMarge is just one of many nicknames.

I can't believe that thing is still blowing off. I was really hoping a solution had been found, it boggles my mind.

If you were close to me, I'd drive over there and swap CAC tubes/boots with you, just to see if it's the truck or the boots/tube itself...

It just hit me like a ton of bricks!!!! I remember reading some threads a long time ago about fixing issues similar to this on high HP trucks.

Take the CAC tube off the truck, and the end that is blowing off... have someone weld a bead all the way around the pipe to effectively make a "raised edge" there... then reinstall. As long as the clamp is tight, there should be no way it can pull over that ridge. Probably wouldn't cost very much, and it'd be easy enough to try!

Thoughts?

Of course, you're dealing with Californian labor rates, so don’t tell Mdub707 how much you had to pay. Just kiddin'!
