05 6.0L Loss of Power and MPG
To begin with im sure Ill see Mdub and 03Powerstroke on here and thanks for your help!
Anyhow. As you may know I have a 6.0L on my ranch its a 2005 F 350 Crew Cab Dully with 190K on it now. Has the auto, and its the lariat not that it matters.
My biggest question is bout three years ago this truck lossed it power, and milage.
I can smash the peddle to the floor and it just feels gutless. It use to get 17mpg and now get 11 maybe 14 if were lucky at all. Also three years ago we had the Computer replaced inside, and by that time we were on our 2nd turbo.. We have been using fram oil filters for the past couple of years beacause they were on sale and we bought in bulk and just decided to use them up and after that never to buy them again for this truck. The past year is when I began to get Involved with the truck, Im fresh outta Diesel school so no I do not know everything but I want to learn what I can. Im young and stupid...
In refference to you guys is that we have had Ford do all the major repairs, reason being this is my grandfathers ranch and main truck his daily driver. He hopes that ford will screw up bad enough that they may give him some kind of discount torwards a new truck.
Also can the EGR creat loss of power??? And istead of replacing it how much more difficult would it be to delete it?
Recent repairs the past year.2010-2011
New HPOP
3 new injectors #2 and #3
1000 mile before 2 and 3 number 6 was out. Or at least that what Ford said and I pulled on the OBD
New water pump.
Turbo resealed(leaking already again)
Front End rebuilt.
New glow plugs, and wire harnesses was done at the time of replacing Number 6 Injector.
2009-2010
New Turbo
New Ficm
3 New Injectors #1,#4,#5
Computer, ecm
Presently the truck, misses every now and then and has No power, I think it pulls just as good as my ole 3.9L Dakota. But if I put in any diesel additive such as Power Service it seems to smooth out for awhile. There are no Codes on the truck at the time. This was what the truck was doing when we took it in to replace the injectors and 500 miles later its doing it again and we have yet to bother to do anything about it he only drives it when he needs it.
Thats what I have at the moment, so for anyone to understand my frustration of this truck no I have not personally turned any wrenches on this truck since I just moved to colorado 2 years ago, I finished Diesel school but Im about to start turning wrenches cuz Im feed up of towin the truck and the crummy job ford does. At least we got a 10% Discount for a new engine I turn wrenches on Cummins, and john Deeres and cases ect. Im a tractor man haha.
Were dancing around right now because were spending 5K on hay every week for cattle.
But I want to start on the simple thing first and work to the harder issues such as Injectors, FICM so we dont spend money on anything uneccesary But I also want to give the Experinced 6.0L Techs and Idea bout this truck. I would love to become a 6.0L Lover!!! and bring peace among the 6.0L People . fiqure instead of complaining bout it I start doing something bout it instead of paying the stealer ship...
Thanks for puttin up with me!!!!
The guy with the 6 Oh No...

The air filter intake to the turbo has to be removed. oil filter housing will have to come off, its easy but be careful with the fuel line, don't kink it. then unplug the fuel injectors, push in a little then pull the clip on them out most of the way, CAUTION THEY WILL GO FLYING IF NOT CAREFUL. take the oil line off turbo, unplug elec. connection on turbo.undo the 2 hot pipe on turbo and pull the whole tube off on the pass side. unbolt /3/ the turbo, 1 on pass side,1on drive side, and one on the back that is hard to see but it is right under and behind the exhaust outlet, its vertical, I use an extention on socket and put it right over top the ex. pipe to get it. to take the turbo out it helps to remove the plastic clips on the wire harness right obove turbo, and tie the harness up and back as good as you can. After the tubo is unbolted it can be removed by lifting and rolling it toward the pass side, the turbo drain tube will come out easy, its not bolted in. Remove the FICM, makes it alot easier to get to bolts for intake, undo the clamp on the end of EGR cooler, its located at back of intake on pass side. unplug the POS EGR valve, unbolt the intake and remove, Then you can do the delete. I think I covered everything, might take about 4 to 6 hours for complete job depending if you take the time to clean the inside of intake.
And before you aslk, POS EGR stands for I LIKE TURTLES EGR..................
