Default 4x4 light not coming on

2004, f250, 4x4, manual trans, manual transfer, XL model, 6.0.

Ok now that mdub has got me all figured out on my motor issues (Big Thanks!) I do not have a light that comes on my dash when I shift into 4x4 hi or low. I dont know if maybe it being an XL model it dosent have this but the 4x4 is working in both high and low just not getting the light. Didnt know if there was any known problems before I started messin with it.
Thanks in advance.

Not sure. Is there a way to get all my lights to illuminate? Like a dash light test. I cant even tell where it should be. I know on my rangers if you looked at it just right you could see where things are supposed to illuminate even when they arent illuminated. I might get motivated tonight and look around since my brake box is lighting up but not actually doing anything.

Just did a google search quick...

Looks like it should be under the tach and a little left. I will check mine out tonight and see, though mine is an 06 and likely different. Anyone with an 03/04 wanna take a look quick?

Yep they are over by the glow plug squiggly line. Had to take a flash light and hold it at an angle to see it. Im thinkin its prolly not a bulb since both of them are out. I started to mess with it last night but it was pretty cold and I hate trying to mess with plastic when its cold. Gonna search advance auto to see if theres a 4x4 switch or somethin on the t-case. Im guessin its prolly somethin like that. Did mess with my brake box a little tho and Im pretty sure I fixed it. Had a cut wire back at the plug. Hoping it took care of the problem but I got no trailer yet and im not gonna bother my neighbor for an experiment. Let you guys no what i figure out on the 4x4 lights.

Well I hadnt noticed before but when I turn my key to the on position all of my lights on my dash illuminate except for my 4x4 lights. Makes me wonder if it is a bulb now. Hows the best way at going about getting to them? On my ranger my plastic crap was mostly bolted on. On the SD Im not seeing any bolts holding it on. I dont wanna just start tuggin at it if I should be unbolting stuff. And if it does happen to be the t-case switch what the heck is it called? I looked through everything on advance autos site and couldnt find anything that sounded like the right part.

I seriously doubt it's any of the switches down on the t-case, I'd start with the bulb myself.

The dash pulls straight out. I usually pull on it a little and slip a bottle opener down in the crack on top of the dash as it's separating from the back part of the dash, then just pry it off. It pops off pretty easy. You can just kind of fold it out of the way, or completely take it off, you'll have to unplug everything from the backside of it, like the 4x4 switch, the headlight switch, the HVAC controls, etc, but it's really easy. The trickiest part is getting it snaked out around the shifter on the column. It helps to turn the key forward and drop the shifter all the way down to 1, to get it out of the way. After that you'll see the instrument cluster is bolted in with something like 4 bolts, all visible when you pop the dash off. Unbolt the cluster and pull it forward, you can unplug that as well and have it on your workbench in no time.

Well got the dash out and pulled the cluster out and pulled a bulb out and it was good. Do I have to seperate the board from the plastic on the cluster to actually check the 4x4 lights? I really didnt want to disconnect all the needles. The only bulbs I know to check are the ones that you can twist and they pop right out.

Well instead of starting a thread for every thing I have questions about since I know you(mdub) can answer most of my questions, Ive got a coolant question. I want to top off my coolant because during egr delete and movin the degas bottle to do ficm Ive lost some coolant along the way(oops). I read that as long as it says ec-1 on the bottle its good to go. Is that correct? Also the previous owner said he put amsoil coolant in it. Its yellow but that dosent mean anything. Do you think I should flush it all out and put in new? Or can I go ahead and just buy some ec-1 rated fluid and top it off. And what coolant do you think is ok to use. Would like to be able to get it at advance cause Ive got gift cards there

If it's the factory gold coolant in there, that's all I'd put in. I wouldn't mix coolants. You might be better off just doing a full flush and using the coolant of your choice. Never heard of Amsoil coolant before... it's probably just factory gold Ford stuff.

Good because they do work, bad because I had to get a jumper wire to ground them individually. Guess I need to replace the t-case switch. Any body have a part number or a correct name for it? It threads into the t-case. Gonna see if the master mechanics at advance auto can find it in their magical tell all computer and if not then it must not exist! Let me know if anybody finds anything and I will do the same.
