I'm still kind of new with the whole diesel thing but i'm learning alot with this web site. Ok so i got An 07 F350 bone stock 97,000 on it and the warranty is about to run up. I have been having egr problems but i want to start taking care of them my self when the warranty runs up. my main ? is if i do an EGR delete do i have to have a programmer?

 

07 will throw a check engine light without a programmer

 

You don't HAVE to have a programmer, but you will more than likely get a light. My advice if you go through with it, delete the cooler, put the new up-pipe in, but leave the EGR valve in place and leave the harness plugged in to it. You may not even get the CEL.

FWIW I was on BulletProof's web site and they have some good info - it may pay to check out their web - I know I learned from it.

 

I just read this on Bullet Proof's website:
"¹ The common belief is that 2003-2005 model 6.0L's will not trigger the check engine light. However, Ford's newer software updates now check for insufficient flow through the EGR and will trigger with an EGR delete. Keep in mind that if you have an earlier version Ford 6.0L and have had it in the Ford dealer in the past few years, your ECM (computer) has most likely been updated to the newer version of software. Also, if you ever take it in to Ford in the future, perhaps for an airbag safety recall of some sort, your ECM will be updated then. So while an EGR delete may not set your check engine light today, it is very much a possibility in the near future." Bullet Proof goes on in their sales pitch to say you can electronically defeat the EGR valve.

1. I have had my computers updated with the latest programming and I have yet to see a CEL come on. Why? Probably because I LEFT THE EGR VALVE IN/CONNECTED! What happens when you put that cool billet cover over the EGR hole? You have an open wire connector, which is going to lead the PCM to sense a fault and kick on the light.

2. The EGR valve is NOT the problem, it's that scavenging scoop redirecting exhaust back to the intake before hitting the turbo. Why do you think 6.0s are so sluggish off idle? Why do you think you have to two foot your truck to spool up your turbo? I found all sorts of bottom end throttle response when I deleted my COOLER. Look at an OEM right side up pipe, that scoop is HUGE!

EGR Block-Off Kit - Diesel Tech - Diesel Power Magazine This write up from 08 didn't delete the valve, just the cooler. Furthermore, it didn't say anything about needing to reflash the computer.

I'm just a guy with a 6.0 who doesn't like to be a sheople, do some research and go from there.

yes, coolant filters can save you a LOT of time and money

 

Coolant filters are one of the best and least expensive mods you can do to these trucks. It would be my first mod if I did it all again.

 

HOw long does it take to do the coolant mod? And how much you thinking?

 

They're like $130 and 15 minutes of your time. Pretty simple.
