Sounds like a great starting plan!!

heavyassault ur right on the SD not havin **** for performance diesel places, and i do have friends that are diesel mechanics and i can do most the work on my own.. i put in my own egr delete, and custom made an 3" exhaust and dumped it right in front of the read tire, i could def do majority of the work just doing the stud work would prolly be the hardest cause it gets really tight near the cab. ill look into the parts you suggested i dont know what 6.4L banjo bolts these are but i will try to find them.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

i also want to swap out my oil cooler filter also, i know that should be done cause the orignal is shitty, but would the banjo bolts be good to have with a airdog fuel system and stock injectors?

I would advise NOT doing this, you will be wasting your time just swapping studs in and not replacing the gaskets and having the head work done to the truck.

These trucks have a 3" exhaust stock...

It sounds like you have a lot of time before any of this happens, so before we go much further I'm going to recommend you just hang out and keep reading for a while and ask a few questions as we go. You'll pick up on a lot just hanging out here...

I'll second that. There is so much information here it's redonculous... You can search anything you could possibly think of and find lots of info, opinions, and what has and hasn't worked for people. That goes for parts too. I think I've saved around $750 buying used parts from guys putting their trucks back to stock to trade or sell.... My .02

i redid the stock exhaust for my own use.. but what type of machine head work would i need done? where would be the best places to go looking to buy these parts? the only thing id really need to pay for is the machining of the heads and all that that intails, i can intall everything else myself and torque them to the proper settings, the turbo, exhaust, and all the other add ons i want.

Heads need to be brought to a machine shop that works on engines a lot.

They will need to be gone through, but the most important part is to ensure they are flat.

They need:
cleaning
magnafluxing to check for cracks
pressure testing to check for leaks
decking to get them flat

how much does that usually run? right now i have no head issues, i had a bad egr cooler, so i deleted it. im lookin at an edge tuner or an sct tuner.. ive read good things bout both. im thinkin bout doing the head gaskets all myself, nd everything..then tryin to find a machine shop. to save money, ill take 30 days of leave and tear into my truck on my own with help from my friends when they are not at work

You should already have custom tuning to go with those injectors or you're going to fry your transmission. Get an SCT, and get tunes from one of the reputable tuners. Like Innovative Diesel, or Matt @ Gearhead. Both are great.

You should have no problem hitting 500 with those sticks and a good turbo, but right now if you have a stock turbo that's going to be your limit point.

I would look into the hybrid or stage 2 turbo from MTW. Welcome to Mad Turbo Werks!! The stage 2 with your 155's should get you there.

Who's 155's are they? What size nozzles? 50%?

I don't think we have any here yet, but I know the ORG has quite a few VERY DETAILED build threads, lots of pictures, part numbers, basically bolt by bolt instructions. I am planning on doing a full detailed write up here once I do the BulletProofing job that keeps getting moved to the right because of deployments/training. In the 2 stud/egr/etc jobs that I've done, my biggest piece of advice is BUY EVERYTHING BEFOREHAND and lay everything out to make sure that you have every gasket and o-ring that you'll need. Nothing like having a project come to a screeching halt because of a missing piece (it will be almost guaranteed that the stealership won't have it in stock). The heads are gonna be the time killer, if you can, find a spare set and have them checked and decked prior to the teardown.

2 guys can comfortably do the job over the weekend (from draining the fluids Friday afternoon, to doing the shakedown test drive on Sunday). Just stay calm, if you get frustrated, walk away for a few minutes (that turbo is gonna kick your ***, has to everyone I know), label and bag parts as necessary, and DON'T RUSH IT (that's when parts get forgotten)

One last bit, drink lots of water and invest in some Motrin otherwise your body will remind you about all of the awkward positions you put it in the next morning and it will make it very difficult to find the motivation to continue
