It wont necessarily change anything. A lot of times if the ICP is bad and the truck wont start, unplugging it is a good way to make sure it's the ICP. At this point if it is the ICP it's not bad enough to tell with that test simply because the truck is still starting. It would need to be put on a scanner to see what is really going on there.

Yank the IPR out and let us know what you find. Inspect the screen on it carefully. I would also get an IPR "rebuild" kit if you're yanking it out. It's just a couple of o-rings to re-seal it and a new updated screen for the end of it.

I am in West Pont about 1.5 hrs s.west of Atl.Got the ipr out and replaced with a new one.The one that came out was a honeywell and did not have a screen on it.no signs of one being on it either.New one has screen.Of course it did not change anything. Please do not tell me there was a screen on the old one.Because I tried to feel in the hole to see if I could feel one and did not feel it.The new one slid into place with ease.I will say it did fire up quicker, not spinning over so long.Do not know if that means anything.Once again thanks for the help.

There is definitely supposed to be a screen yes, but whether or not one was put in last time... hard to tell.

Not much else I can offer, it really needs to be put on a scanner.

When the engine is smoking hot, operating temp, if you shut it off and restart it right away, does it go into a high cackling/rough running state?
