p2286 Mind of its Own!

have an 04 6.0 that keeps throwing the p2286 code.had the icp and plug replaced.found that the throttle body was not tight so i tightened.checked a couple of plugs in the top of the valley and now the code.Any help?

Did anyone clear the codes since it was replaced? How many miles on this truck? Any other issues? More info helps...

Is your ICP on the back of the motor I take it?

Was the IPR pulled at all? Do you have access to a scanner?

mind of its own

the truck has 137,000.The codes went awy when work was completed.had the codes read at oriellys.IPR was supposily changed.Had this work done by a tech that works for local dealer.Did egr block when I did the Head gaskets.

So the ICP, ICP pigtail, and the IPR were all replaced, but you're still getting P2286? Was this code cleared after the work was done and it keeps coming back? Do you have access to a scanner?

swamp ratt 11-07-2011 07:48 PM

Yes all of that was changed supposidly.Along with two injectors.# 3 and #7. I have noticed a oil leak coming from the back top of the motor.Do not know what that would that have to do with the voltage.Trying to give you all the info I can.You seem to be the only one responding to me.I am totally grateful. The truck will run ok if I disconnect the bateries upon shut down.Noticed that it is idling rough today. No I do not have acess to a scanner except the ones at the parts stores.Did find the code is there is high voltage at icp.Yes it keeps coming back. This is now the second time.

Really need to get it on a good scanner and check IPR duty cycle. Also check ICP actual vs. ICP desired.

Is the truck starting and running like normal or not?

Starts and runs ok.Idle is starting to be a little rough. Will be going down south for the holidays and have acess to a better scanner.

I really wouldn't recommend taking this for any road trips until this issue is resolved, but that's your call. It is something that could possibly leave you stranded.

I just relocated to north Georgia and all the people I know in this type of work are all back south. If the IPR was not replaced could that be the major prob?Could the ICP be wired wrong?

Mdub707 11-08-2011 07:19 PM

It'd be tough to wire the ICP wrong, it's just a plug in... I suppose it's possible, but it seems like your issues would be worse.

You can always unplug the ICP and try starting the truck. It will start and idle, but you wont really be able to drive it like that. The PCM just goes to factory defaults.

If the IPR wasn't replaced it could absolutely cause this. It could be sticking and not allowing the system to build high pressure on the oil side. You can pull that and inspect the screen on it too.
