Default 6.0 Record

Ok, so I decided what I want to do with the single cab. The current record for the fastest street legal 6.0 Powerstroke is 10.60 with a 200...4? CC/SB 4x4 XLT power everything. He has me on the traction side of the house since mine is only 2WD but I have him on weight (SC/LB, manual windows/locks, solid rear window). I think I can pull it off. My question is, other than the obvious mods (studs [already done], SCT, straight pipe 4" [already done], W/M inj, EGR, oil cooler, deck the heads), what will I need to do to get that extra couple hundred HP and TQ to hit 10.50s or lower? What injectors to go with? What turbo?

So you're going to do a RC/LB? Or what, I'm kind of confused? What cab/box config are you going with.

There are a few 6.0's faster than that, but most of them are stuffed into rangers. There's a relatively stock 6.0 in a tube frame ranger running 9's on basically a stock motor.

Are you planning on doing this with the truck in sig, or are you buying a reg cab truck?

You're gonna need big injectors, a trans, turbo or turbos, fuel system, better oiling more than likely (this will depend on injector size) and a truck and trailer to tow it around with. Going to have to do a full cage, and if you touch near the 150mph mark, a parachute and a laundry list of other things. This wont be a street truck.

Yes RC/LB. Not the truck in my signature. It doesn't need to be a daily driver, just street legal and able to hit 10.50s

MPD had a RC/LB in the 9's already. Single charger, did something like 800hp on fuel only. The truck was called Whitey.

What's your budget for this? Whatever you think it is, you should probably just triple it now.

So are you looking to have the fastest 6.0 in a factory framed truck, or just something to do 10.50's? In a 2x4, what kind of suspension are you going to look at? 4-link rear possibly?

Deranged is up for sale too, just saying... it's already built to take a 6.0 motor.

Just for frame of reference, Shaun Ellertons truck is pushing north of 1200 rwhp, with 3 or 4 stages of nitrous, and he's cutting 10.40's now. It should be a lot easier in a lighter truck, keeping it street legal and keeping it daily drivable are two different things. I would throw the daily driver idea out the window right now. To get to these power levels you're going to need hybrid injectors and they're not recommended for daily driving as they have major issues with fuel getting into the oil, so the oil needs to be changed quite often. Which isn't an issue for a truck running 1/4 mile passes all the time...

I can help you with a parts list, but we need to be realistic about a few things. Your budget is going to be the biggest limiting factor I'm guessing (no offense, and not implying you don't have money, but I think some people just underestimate what it costs to build a truck like that.)

I'd like to be able to put GOOD CHUNK of my deployment money into this truck (roughly $25-30k) which will leave me with $5-10k to play with elsewhere (possibly my CB/LB 4x). Got the RC/LB for a damn steal because the VGT was caked with soot (the guy thought the turbo was blown) and the EGR went out and she started smokin' white. Studs have already been delivered to the house and are awaiting me to return to install. If the $25-30k doesn't get what I need then it's not the end of the world, I'll save up more paychecks to finish it. Would an ATS trans be the way to go for this build?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Not gonna be a daily driver by any means. Just want the fact that I can say it's street legal, noone ever said the fastest street 6.0 had to be street practical. Lol. Maybe once every other month it'll get driven to the local truck meet.

Ok I like where you're going.

Don't buy anything ATS, their trans are crap and their customer service is worse. For trans, talk to Doug @ GoGo, or you can do NADP as well. NADP is what is in Shaun Ellertons truck. I've also heard good things about twisted diesel and brian @ BTS, but they're bigger with the 4R100's in the 7.3's. I can't think of anyone off the top of my head in Cali, but I bet there is someone out there. NADP trans' run $5500 last I checked.

Lets see if I can get a basic parts list together for you and some prices off the top of my head:

Fuel side:
stock tank will work, or you might want to look into a fuel cell mounted over the rear axle too.
Sump (either a hellman or a TSD), they're around $150 I believe
Pump (Airdog 2 is quite common choice) $675 or so if memory serves. I would run from the sump, to the pump, up to a "Y" splitter, directly into the heads and bypass the factory fuel bowl up top.
Regulated return, I know donzimama on PSN and PSA is selling his own now, I think they're around $475, ITP/strictly diesel sells a nice kit, they're closer to $700.
Fuel pressure gauge is a MUST. ~$150
Injectors... sizing is going to go hand in hand with your turbo selection too. This is where we really need to figure out a horsepower goal. 225's will get you close to 700 on fuel... do you think you want/need more than that? For builders I would stick with Ryan Casserly from Full Force, or Hypermax, or Jesse Warren of Warren diesel is new on the scene, but I've heard good things from him and his prices are better. Prices will vary tremendously here. Anywhere from $1500 to $3500, mostly depending on if they build from brand new Ford injectors or re-use old ones. Most will want to build from new now, the old ones are too questionable. I believe Shaun Ellerton uses Hypermax injectors.
A modded FICM would probably help as well

AIR:
Intake of some sort, might end up being custom depending on turbo setup.
Turbo, single or compounds? The MPD crew ran 340 hybrid injectors with a single 75mm charger, that's about the largest single I know of anyone running on a 6.0. I think they did over 800hp on fuel only, which is probably one of the highest I know of on fuel only. Depending on how big you go, you may even find yourself experimenting with a few different turbo setups. Compounds would help with spool up and daily drivability, but they're also more $ and more work. Most common compound setups are usually a 62/64mm for secondary and an S480 based charger for the primary. Then you'll need brackets, plumbing, oil pan needs to be drilled and tapped (requires removal of engine to be done right), just things to think about.
Might want to think about ported heads, though not completely necessary.
A stage 1 GoGo intake would be a GREAT idea and help spool-up immensely.
Obviously an exhaust system, of your choice.
Upgrade the stock up-pipes to something like what Innovative sells with the improved bellows.
Intercooler of some sort, or you may want to think about an air-to-water cooler.
A cam would probably help too. Hamilton, and I know Elite make some. Note, the motor needs to be completely removed and almost completely disassembled to put a cam in, factor that time in too.

Trans:
Nadp
GoGo can build a good one too
I would throw in Doug's (GoGo) direct drive solenoid too $150.

Other misc things I can think of quick:
Gauges, a slew of them. At least fuel pressure for sure. EOT, ECT would be good. Pyro probably good, but chances are you wont look at it anyways and I'd tell you to put a piece of tape over it.
Nitrous, helps with spool up and to clean up the fuel since our heads are huge restrictions of fuel flow
Cage for the truck
Race seats
Harness'
Fire extinguisher
Wheels/tires (some sort of drag slicks for those speeds/times)
Tuning will be huge... work with a good tuner, you're going to be sending files back and forth a bit until you get it dialed in.
Wastegate, again, this will take some tuning.

You will probably want to get a rule book too and figure out exactly what needs to be done to the truck for safety reasons too.

This is just some things that come to mind right now, I'm sure I can add more to this list as we go on here...

A couple links of possible interest:

This is a good one to show what goes into a build like this:
http://powerstrokenation.com/forums/...ghlight=whitey

I believe White ran real low 11's and maybe squeaked a few high 10's on fuel only, then went with a couple small stages of spray and ran something as low as 10.22 or so in the 1/4. It's still a full framed truck, but has a fiberglass front clip. Here's some of the build specs on whitey:

new mods this year
hybrid injectors
mpd stainless manifolds
bullseye billet s475 with stainless 1.0 housing
mpd intake manifolds
2000hp air to water cooler
roll cage and suspension work

motor work:
.20 ovr coated 16/1 pistons
hypermax rods
coating bearings
balanced
ede ported heads with bigger valves
billet push-rods
ede stage 1 cam
suncoast billet flexplate
