Well Mine wasn't $1800 but $530 hurts just as bad since we are going into Birthday and Holiday season. Guy at the shop got a fully rebuilt unit from his guy in Florida and reprogramed and installed. I'm thinking I could have done the install and Maybe fixed it, but if you want to play you gotta pay. Thats just how it is.. Ford wanted to sell me a half for $500 so I think I came out a little better.

I'd bet money all they did was buy a 1/2 shell, install it and then charge you more for it. 1/2 shells are about $400 last I knew. I'm not sure what a fully "rebuilt" FICM is... If they just fixed an old one it wouldn't need to be programmed at all. If it needed reprogramming it was either a new one or a new 1/2 shell. My guess is you could of fixed your old one yourself or had someone else do it for cheaper than that. Just for future reference! That's why we're on these forums though right?

If I thought I could leave the truck down long enough for me to do it, I might have. Guess what I really need to do is get and old one from the junk yard and have a Practice day just to see if I have the skills. All the knowledge can be found here and on the other ford related sites.

I have good one's sitting on the bench that I typically send out to guys who can't go without their truck for a day, you install my good working one on your truck, I take your old one and fix it. Simple.

The write-up's are out there. It's not hard to physically do the solder, it's a PITA to test the things, rip them apart, figure out how to get all that goop off of the board without making a huge mess, fix it, put it back together, test it, take it back apart and re-apply new goop, etc etc...
