Default fuel filters

i have not changed the fuel filters myself on the 6.0 liter yet, always had it done. Doing it myself this weekend, anything i need to know out of the ordinary? Prime fuel system after filter change? I remember reading somewhere about cycling the fuel pump be turning the key to the on position several times... Also dropping pan on tranny and servicing filters... Anyone have a approximate for refill on the torqeshift with just a fluid and filter change? Thanks in advance! Looking to do this over the weekend!

yes, just cycle the key a few times to prime the pump. and you will need the right size sockets to remove the caps. the fuel filter housing under the truck is a 35mm. not sure what the secondary filter is, but it has a fittig for a 1/2 inch wrench, dont do that. guy who reinstalled my filter before I bought the truck had it on tight and I cracked the filter cap because I didnt use a socket.

It's a 36mm. I always use a 1/2" breaker bar on the upper one, just don't over tighten it.

Make sure you ONLY use motorcraft or International fuel filters too.

You bypassed the filter bowl then? Just run lines right to a "Y" and into the heads? If it runs quieter, your old pump was probably not holding pressure then eh? Do you measure fuel pressure currently?

oh no cause i still like the regulated pressure from the bowl. but with the new pump my truck has no problem keepin up with the demand.. not to mention its constantly cleaning my fuel and keepin it pure to the engine. i think my pump was ok but not keepin up with my truck and the tune i was runnin.. and it quiets down the injectors cause its maintaining a good pressure all the time, at idle or wot.

The pump itself is regulated though? So which one is doing the regulating? The spring/ball method up in the filter bowl isn't the greatest. I would bypass it and run right to the heads from the AD2. If you still want to regulate up at that point, you can get an ITP regulated return kit (strictly diesel now). You can also just run a x-over line behind the heads and then build your own regulator at that point, that way it's regulating past the injectors.

yeah the ad2 has an adjustable reg. but the stock one does just fine for what i do. i just hated payin so much for the filters and getting soaked in diesel fuel. plus i don't want to go to that extreme/ i don't plan on gettin bigger stix for awhile,,,, just put new stock ones in couldnt afford an upgrade or the headstuds. also my only upgrade next will be the garett stage one... ya know the powermax and some custom tunes
