fuel filters
i have not changed the fuel filters myself on the 6.0 liter yet, always had it done. Doing it myself this weekend, anything i need to know out of the ordinary? Prime fuel system after filter change? I remember reading somewhere about cycling the fuel pump be turning the key to the on position several times... Also dropping pan on tranny and servicing filters... Anyone have a approximate for refill on the torqeshift with just a fluid and filter change? Thanks in advance! Looking to do this over the weekend!:c:

yes, just cycle the key a few times to prime the pump. and you will need the right size sockets to remove the caps. the fuel filter housing under the truck is a 35mm. not sure what the secondary filter is, but it has a fittig for a 1/2 inch wrench, dont do that. guy who reinstalled my filter before I bought the truck had it on tight and I cracked the filter cap because I didnt use a socket.

thanks for the reply, I will use sockets for sure....don't need self imposed problems!

It's a 36mm. I always use a 1/2" breaker bar on the upper one, just don't over tighten it.
Make sure you ONLY use motorcraft or International fuel filters too. |
whoops, yeah, mike is right,I just looked at my tools, it is a 36mm my bad

i did the air dog 2 and deleted my filters.. best thing i ever did for my 6.0 runs quieter and my filers are cheap :):choochoo:

You bypassed the filter bowl then? Just run lines right to a "Y" and into the heads? If it runs quieter, your old pump was probably not holding pressure then eh? Do you measure fuel pressure currently?

The pump itself is regulated though? So which one is doing the regulating? The spring/ball method up in the filter bowl isn't the greatest. I would bypass it and run right to the heads from the AD2. If you still want to regulate up at that point, you can get an ITP regulated return kit (strictly diesel now). You can also just run a x-over line behind the heads and then build your own regulator at that point, that way it's regulating past the injectors.
