Congratulations! You're the 500th retard to come in here only wanting smoke. It's jackwagons like you who all you want is smoke that are killing the sport for the rest of us who actually want the power. When you want a lot of power and are happy that there is a lot of smoke as a biproduct then come talk to me. I will not aid someone who only wants smoke, lots of smoke kills these trucks and destroys turbos.

Go through the tech forums on here and figure out how to make your engine reliable because if you want it to roar and are rompin' on it everywhere, you're gonna blow the heads right off that block. Then after you've done that, go and look at performance threads. Hopefully by then you have the "rollin coal" thoughts out of your head

First off, Moved your thread from the "Potential Owners" section to the Ford Section...

Secondly... Build for power, Not for smoke. One of these day's we are going to be heavily regulated and the only reason is because somebody thought it would be funny to smoke out that hybrid...When the guy driving that hybrid is one of your legislators...

Lastly, If you want sound, Straight pipe is the way to go.

We're good. Remember, we want to welcome the newbies and help them see why blowin smoke everywhere is only going to mess it up for all of us. Not just yell at them. We're all here cuz we like Diesel trucks.

There is a way to belch smoke without buying a programmer or any of that stuff by installing a smoke switch, however you will kill your fuel mileage and DESTROY your turbo. Before you start goin' all wild on modifications, the 6.0 needs some help before you can go radical. First things first, do an EGR delete or upgrade, upgrade the oil cooler (BulletProof sells a combo kit for about $2200 that comes with the EGR delete/upgrade, oil cooler, appropriate gaskets and instructions), definitely get a coolant filter system (Sinister has a great one), this will give you a reliable rig and all 3 of those can be done in your garage over the weekend. Next is stud the heads, the 6.0 has only 4 bolts surrounding each cylinder which stretch when pushing a lot of boost and making a lot of power, have ARP head studs installed (studs will cost you about $500 give or take, and installation can run you up to $2000 since the cab has to come off to get to the back cylinders), have the heads decked and new gaskets put on at this time. Now you have a truck that will hold up to a generous amount of power. First thing most people do (and you don't have to wait until after you do the studs, egr, oil cooler, etc) is a 4" turbo-back straight pipe. Getting that catalytic converter and muffler off will really open up the exhaust tone and make the truck breathe so much easier, run it out through stacks, factory location pipe or in front of the rear tire, whatever tickles your pickle. If you like you can do what is called the Zoodad modification which gives the air box a more direct flow of air. Lastly is a tuner, don't be fooled by Edge, Bully Dog and the other wannabes, they are good programmers, but as far as the 6.0 is concerned an SCT tuner with custom tunes from Innovative Diesel is the best way to go hands down. If you do all of that you will be sitting at very respectable hp/tq numbers (I haven't dynoed my rig with the SCT on yet so I don't know exact numbers), improve the life of your truck, and you will be able to blow smoke but use your smoke wisely. Just like smoker said, the environmentalists are itchin' for reasons to crack down harder on diesels. I admit I do blow smoke but I keep it low key and don't go around town rollin' coal from every stoplight. Cops LOVE smoke, it's dollar signs for them, in California it is classified under "Exhibition of Speed" Vehicle Code 23109c, same as if you squeal the tires.

First, good post.

Second, why do you say this, it does NOT have to come off for ARP's to go in. You can do it two ways, take the motor out, or leave it in, cab on, and do it in the cab. Taking the cab off is the easiest and quickest, but it certainly can be done in your driveway with the cab on.

I figured since I'm giving him advice on how to make it 100 times less likely to blow up, I would leave out the possible head/gasket failure shortcut. Lol.

Wait a minute here!!

Your telling me you can get the heads off with the cab still on??

I've been told that:
1). remove motor
2). remove cab
3). one for one (remove bolt replace w/ stud)

I personally would'nt do #3 but i don't have a lift to remove the cab.. When i priced out having it done for me from a few shops they were in the 4500.00 range but that also included a egr delete..

So is there a way i can do this in my own shop and do it right??
