what should i look for in a 03 6.0 excursion 4x4.
Hey guys, I'm a new member and hope you can help me in making a decision in buying another Excursion. I had an o2 with the 7.3 and wished i'd never let it go. I have heard nothing good about the '03 6.0. Please set me straight with this. I'm aware of the injector issues but thats it. I've read many of your post but am not sure of all the abbrievation. What do I need to look for and what questions do i need to ask the owner? As far as i know its completely stock with 120k miles. Also what kind of milage should i look for. I'm sure there are tons of mods to help with milage but what should i look for without having to go too deep into my pocket. THANKS IN ADVANCE..... George

If this truck has 120000 on it and hasn't had problems I would say your off to a good start. However if it has been in for head gaskets several times be warned. Dealers are notorious for not checking to make sure the heads are flat, and if they are not flat they will blow headgaskets even with studs.
Come back with any specific questions, there are some great guys that will give excellent advice on here.

The 6.0 isn't a bad motor with new head gaskets, arp studs and an egr delete. All 3 I would do right off the bat even if the truck doesn't have any problems currently. One thing that's very easy to look out for is changes in coolant levels or coolant splatter in the engine compartment especially around the reservoir and cap. If you see coolant splatter under the hood anywhere it's a sign that there is a head gasket seepage somewhere and the system is being pressurized. The truck will run fine but it needs fixed so you don't hydrolock the motor. There are a few places that are selling 6.0 engine kits that include head gaskets, arp studs, and the sinister egr delete kit. They go for around $1,000 or so. Good luck man

Yeah what those guys said.
Just for future reference, lifting an excursion body off the frame isn't much harder than taking the cab off of a truck. It's only 2 extra body mount bolts, and undo the tank filler and tail lights on top of what you would normally do to the truck. Makes it real easy for doing headgaskets and studs.
