6.0l Powerstroke falling apart?
 

Following the sheet metal in oil pan thread;

2003 6.0l Powerstroke long bed crew cab dually pick up. 63K miles on it. 100% stock.

Lube shop found a piece of sheet metal inside pan during a scheduled maint. My parents after the service hooked up to their 34' 14K lb 5th wheel and started to drive outta town to find a loss in power only able to reach 40MPH. Pulled over, shut down and waited 15 min's and restarted. Truck ran great!!! Towed the 5th wheel 280 miles and parked it. My father was concerned about the metal in the oil pan so he took it to a Ford Dealership. They said the metal was a razor blade possibly from a previous repair or the Ford factory. Also found 3 injectors were bad and the low pressure oil pump was leaking. Total repair cost $3200.00
My father approved to have repairs made and during dissasembly of the motor the Ford dealer discovered the metal was not a razor blade but a part of the crank assemlby and said the motor was falling apart and were suprised they made it all the way there without the motor exploding. Anyway they want to replace the motor for a cost of $13,000.00
The new motor will have a lifetime warranty according to Ford.
Can I get some input as to what any of you would do? And is there some kind of factory warranty I dont know about that can get their truck fixed? HELP!!! They are supposed to come home in 2 weeks. At this point they are stuck down there with their 5th wheel and no truck to pull it home.

Lifetime Warranty on a motor from a dealership that isn't a home town dealer? If the motor will be covered by ANY Ford dealer for life get it all down on paper and let them fix the truck.

My bet is that the dealership doing the motor work will cover the motor independently of Ford.

I think I'd be writing a letter to someone higher up in Ford. That's not your typical headgasket problem, that's pretty serious if you have the crank falling apart. No way in he!! could I justify spending $13k to get a new motor in there. Find one on the forums or ebay. For that price, I'd be looking at cummins swap personally.

That's a lot of money! Rent a truck to get your folks home and then find a cummins. Did I say get rid of ford 6.0 13mpg for 22 mph what is the matter with me?

It's kinda sad when retired people get stuck with a whopping big bill like that to fix something that they had no part of destroying. I have the same problem with my 2005 6.0 F250 Lariat and there's no way, warrantee or no, that I'd put that kinda money into my truck to fix it. A conversion kit to move to a newer Cummins is approximatly $3500, and a low mileage good used Cummins engine is about that much more. For another $1000 the unit can be back on the road with a reliable economical more powerful engine in place. And the one thing that I'll do and I recommend you do also is raise living hell over this fiasco and make certain you never give Ford anothr nickel.:argh:

Tell them to do themselves a favor and dump the 6.0 junk. :c:

I know a guy that has a 6.0 and has blowed three head gaskets and all it has is a bully dog. I would no doubt swap for a cummins.

if they warranty a 6.0 forever they're doing something that was until very recently impossible, and i think that's a bogus claim, i'd tell em to say screw that, and go buy a new dodge with a 6.7 cummins or a duramax and tell ford to stick it where the sun doesn't shine

Guys that don't know how to tune a Stroke and keep up with maintanence usually don't have problems with head gaskets.... hell i have way more on my truck than your buddy has and i drive this think around like the Bandit. Don't waste your time with a dodge 6.7, pulling all the time will kill that tranny fast. If you get a new 6.7 make it the Powerstroke 6.7 Great motor so far, Great tranny, Amazing comfort, can't go wrong....


oh yea... and they're strong as SHIT!!!!:choochoo:
