2006 powerstroke
I'm new to the site and looking at getting a 2006 f250 6.0 powerstroke has 54k on it. Still has some factory warrenty left on it. I will be using it for work drive 250 miles a day 200 highway miles other 50 in town and pulling a trail some of that time. I'm driving a 03 chev with the 8.1gas in it get 10mpg loaded or empty. What can I expect to get with the 6.0.I have been told the 6.0 is junk by some some love it. Lets Hear good or bad. Thanks Scott

I get about 14 MPG.. and thats running bad. Only mod is 4 inch exaust. As you wil find out on this site the 6.0 has its fair share of problems. But with a few mods done it will last forever. ARP studs I have found out is a must. Especially is you get a tuner ( SCT XCal3 ).
One problem I have run into alot so far is the EGR Valve carbons up often and needs cleaned. Which can be done yourself. Even Ford recommends that you do it.
I bought my 07F350 6.0 PS Crewed Longbox back in March with 53k miles on it. Just about to turn 62k. But thats because my odometer quit working.. It started flipping miles off real fast. then slowed down to about 10ths per mile driven. And now has completely stopped. But thats just my truck. LOL. Warranties will last longer thats for sure!!!
I love my truck but it does have its problems. Which I am trying to get Ford to fix since its under warranty still (100k miles for the 6.0 PS ENGINE)
I get roughly 500 to 550 miles per tank of fuel. Which is 38 gals.. My brother in law gets about 16 to 18 in his truck. 07 F250 crewcab 6.0PS with a shortbax

I have an 06 extended cab short bed 4x4 auto with the 6.0 and I get between 13-15mpg depending on my driving habits, which is usually lead foot kind of driving. I would recommend an EGR delete and maybe a mild tune with an SCT for mileage. Some guys have no problems running extreme race tunes daily, others have problems stock. ARP studs (have the heads decked too) and an EGR delete, as well as a coolant filter go a LONG way to make these trucks far more reliable.

i get 14.9-15.4 MPG and that's hot roddin my truck around everywhere and an 8" lift and 36" tires on a 05 6 spd. All of the problems these trucks are know for can be easily prevented. Just like mdub said, an egr delete, some studs, an SCT, and a coolant filter and the truck will be reliable for many many years to come. Hope you make the right choice
