Default sucking fuel like you wouldnt believe.

Ok got a new one for you guys. I either have a faulty fuel guage now or I have some major issue with fuel air ratio. I went to pick up my 5th today. About 15 miles from my house. I had just filled tank ( 38 gals) and only had driving 6 miles before I had left. So I pick up the trailer. Fleetwood 25ft 5th with small slide. Litewight trailer. Ok now I get home and have 38.9 miles driven. And my gauge shows I used 1/4 tank. Thats about 9 gals in 40 miles?? I called my brother and he said he had no idea Other then the air filter possible. But there should be no way to use up 9 gals in 40 miles.. Truck is 07 F350 Powerstroke 6.0.
I did just do a EGR clean yesterday and have more power. smoother idle. And the bucking has stopped. Truck only has 62k miles. The EGR was major fouled. Nearly 1/4 inch of carbon on the bottom end. Need to know anythign else let me know.. Only MOD I know fo is 4 inch exhaust.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Im going to go top it tank off in a few to verify that I have used 9 gals.

9 gallons in 38.9 miles, You must have a hole in your fuel tank I think it's your fuel gauge

Go top it off, no way you used that much.

Also when you "top it off" you cant just fill it til the pump clicks off, you need to keep filling it slowly until you can see fuel in the filler neck. This can take anywhere from 10-20 extra minutes, no joke, its a huge PITA for recording mileage. The reason for this is that when you're filling up the fuel is foaming a lot and throws off where the pump will shut off. Not a big deal, unless, you're trying to figure mileage! I have the smaller tank (I think it's 29gal) and my fuel gauge wont move off of full until I've driven 75 miles or so, then drops like a rock. I wouldn't worry too much about it until you've hand calculated this and filled like I've said.

I do the same thing while filling up the tank. Gotta wait till tomorrow to top it off. Have the trailer hooked up. And all the stations out here in Walnut Creek are SMALL.. or you have to do u turns to get in there. My gauge does the same thing.. Wont move off of Full till about 50 miles or so then drops rapidly. My brother is curious to see whats going on himself. He has a 07 F250 with the 6.0 also. And some of these problems IM having he has never heard of. So Im keeping him in the loop also.

Tell him to sign up on here or another powerstroke forum, then he will see problems are common with 6.0's!

Let us know how you make out with the mileage. I cant believe you would have used that much.

OK weekend update,, So I left town ( Walnut Creek, CA) and had reset my trip meter. Just wanted to see how far the trip was and to check the fuel usage. I get to Infineon Raceway and noticed my trip meter says I have gone a total of 1.7 miles. Now this is approx 45 miles from my house. SO i reset it in Petaluma and drove to Santa Rosa which is about 20 miles. Looked at my trip meter again and says I have gone 1.4 miles. Now WTF right?? So I check my odometer. It hasnt moved either. This round trip was about 450 miles.. And my odometer moved a woopin 48 miles. Not sure if this is related to my speedsensor going out. Which was replaced and still dont work. So I know Im getting around 16 to 18 mpg. But now my warranty is going to last forever if my odometer is only going to flip tenths of miles. HAHAHA.. Goes the same for my tire warranties. ANyone else have their odometer fail ?? I zlso recorded video on my cell of part of tthe trip and the odo not flipping. If I can get it on here I will.

interesting, our f450 6.0 gas guage will stay past full forever and then just falls like crazy, but my 05 6.0 has never had that problem at all. im interested to find out what is wrong.

Ford replaced the Speed Sensor today. But charged me for labor. Said if the Sensor goes again it wont be covered. That its most likely has something to do with the rearend gears itself. Worn gears in it? Who knows. But if it goes again Il just have to go my the tach for then on. ANd the warranty is going to last for ever. LOL.

At same time since I had such huge loss of power. They checked my Turbo. Stuck vanes to be short and faulty turbo sensor and they replaced the unison ring. Replaced center housing rotating assembly. . Since truck only has 62k miles they fixed it all. They did the KOEO. Only code that came up with PO299. and PO500.
Will pick truck up tonight and see how she runs.
Also with the KEOE the Fuel delivery test was 52 psi and 49psi under load.

and BTW.. when the speed sensor quits working. the odometer and trip meter wont work properly. So thats why it had seemed like i was getting really crappy mileage.
