What was the metal in the HPOP?

If it was a part that dropped into the engine when doing maintenance (like an injector clip) then that is not good, but it isn't catastrophic.

Worse than that would be lifter needle bearings. The engine would have to come out and maybe need major work, up to and including a new cam shaft.

IMO, you need to figure that out before spending any more money.
