Default rough idle, sudden power boost

So when my truck warms up, and I'm cruising down the road, all of a sudden I'll get a sudden burst of power, like an injector opens up all the way, but when I let out of the fuel it goes away like the injector closes. Then at idle it will idle real rough like it's missing, and if I rev it up in park I get big clouds of black smoke, but if I shut the truck off and restart it right away it won't do it for like maybe 20-30 seconds then it will start idling rough again. I put my ae on it, got no codes, checked for misfire count but it didn't record any. My fuel pressure gauge stays between 50-55 psi the whole time. Anybody have any ideas???

Get it on a good scan tool, watch desired icp and real icp, do a contribution balance test

Go through a cut each individual injector and wait for the one that makes no difference at idle with it cut off

Check the wires to each injector, no breaks, tears, corrosion, ensure they are plugged in well.

Check the plugs on the bottom of the FICM are clicked in good.

With checking all of this you should find one of two things

#1 bad wire connection
#2 bad injector

Good luck and let us know!

I've had my ae on it, I've watched desired and actual icp and they are very close, I went through and cut each injector and they all made the truck run worse, I will check the ficm, I just had it replaced last year to the updated 58v style. I'll check the plugs on it. Thanks! And I've heard icp is behind you he turbo on the 03s? So what's the sensor on my front passenger side valve cover???

never mind, I thought the sensor was on the valve cover, but it's not. So I put my ae on again today and came up with these codes; P2285- icp sensor circuit low, and U0306 software incompatibility with fuel injector control module, does anybody have any idea what this second code means!!!???? I do have an oil leak on top of the motor so I'm kind of thinking that this is my problem,

so I figured that if I have to pull the turbo off to swap out the sensor I might as well change the turbo anyways, so I do a lot of towing and daily driving, but I'm wanting like 500-550 hp so what turbo should I be looking at??

If you have an oil leak and the symptoms you describe it sounds like a bad ICP sensor, oil will come right through the sensor itself. Do yourself a favor while you have the turbo out, go ahead and pull the intake and rebuild your oil cooler and also what I do is buy an intake from a late 04 to 07 6.0, it gets rid of the crossover / toilet bowl/ at back of intake, it makes getting to the ICP sensor and IPR sensor a lot easier in the future. I get the intakes off ebay for $65-$100 depending if they have the one piece elbow or not with them

Okay, is there any other gains with replacing the intake besides just that? Should I get a ported intake? I hear a lot of talk about them.

and rebuilding oil cooler, is that a necessity since I have the egr delete? I thought that was the only reason they needed rebuilt?
