Default Bad piston question

Hey guys I have a question that will end up having multiple answers I know. Im new to the diesel world so keep that in mind. I recently had my truck bullet proofed. I drove it about 20 miles the first day I got it and it ran good. (I don’t drive wild and I don’t do burnouts or doughnuts.) The next day I drove into town and stopped at the body shop. I left the truck idling while I went in. When I came out the truck didn’t have the same sound im accustom to. When I put it in drive and started off it ran extremely rough. I took it directly to the shop that did the work. I put a total of about 60 miles on it. They thought it was #7 injector so they replaced it, but didn’t fix the issue. They then did a compression test and #5 failed so they pulled the head. I have attached a picture I took. What could have caused this amount of damage to the piston? The mechanic said it could have been a turbo fin. I asked if he had found any metal and he said no. I said well the metal should be in the oil or something. He replied not true, it could have gone out of the exhaust. not sure what to think about it.

Impossible for a turbo fin to do that, there is no way a fin will make it all the way through the intercooler, the shop screwed up and dropped something into the intake or through the top of head through the port. the only thing that could have caused this other then a major screw up would be a broken injector tip, but that is very evident as soon as the injector is removed.

Thanks for the input. I need some ammo for when I go talk to the guy this morning about the truck and what he plans to do to fix it.
