Default low end oil pressure question

2004 f250
6 liter turbo
new batteries

I recently replaced the hpop, did air test after with no leaks. all my high pressure seals are done and dummy plugs. The truck ran for about 1 hour then died on the side of the road. So i backed up and started with the basics and found that im getting no low end oil pressure. i piped in a mechanical gauge on the top of the oil cooler cover where the oil pres. switch is. I am getting no reading at all on the gauge cranking. The next step I took the oil filter out and used a long flat head screwdriver to close the valve that lets the oil back into the crankcase when doing filter change. the oil oozes out of the front hole while cranking and very slowly starts filling the housing. it fills about 1/8 of the hosing after cranking for 10 seconds. My thought is that the pump/ cover is shot. Should the oil be filling the housing faster?

Thanks

I would say low pressure pump done if not filling housing and no or very low pressure at port. How many miles on truck? The low pressure feeds the high pressure system.

Default miles

225k on engine. fantastic maint. record , and one owner Thats how i finally came to the low oil pump, was using a scangauge 2 and still was getting 0 pressure on hpop , even after replacement, SO I was saying, " Alan, go back to the basics, your missing something! "

by chance do you know of a resource for a front cover R and R procedure?? Will be tearing apart the front my self, I would feel better having a good reference

Thanks again

Normally it is just the pump itself, gears, and not the whole cover. pull the pump first and inspect the cover, if cover is good then you will save 700 bucks. the pump is located right behind the balancer, so removal of the fan and shroud then the balancer the pump cover will be right there and easy to get to.

Normally you won't need the feeler gauges, just pull the gears and look at them, bad ones will be nicked up and have dents in them from something. if you have cylindrical marks about half inch long and about 1/16 wide then it may be more drastic. that is about the size of the needle bearings out of a lifter.
