Looking at buying my first diesel
Here is a link to a 2004 f250 6.0L that I found. I found out that it was owned by a guy in his 60's and used it to pull his camper. I am looking for any suggestions or input on the 6.0L.
Thanks

Oh, the 6.0! They have to potential to be good motors, but the early ones were very problem prone.
- Head gaskets - fixed the head design mid year '05
- Injector issues - pretty much sorted out by mid year '05
- EGR coolers- always an issue
- Oil coolers- Always an issue
- Sticking turbo vanes- sorted out pretty well after first few years, but always a potential issue.
- The 03-04's still ride like wagons with the leaf sprung front.
The good:
- Great transmission and drivetrain
Honestly, I try to steer poeple away from that vintage of truck, you have lost the reliabilty of the 7.3 but don't get the benefit of the ride improvement of the coil sprung front that came along in 05.
Don't get me wrong, all of these engine issues can be resolved with some time and a little more money, but that needs to be figured into the purchase price . . . as well as gauged against what you plan to do with the truck.

A Guy in his mid 60's put and egr delete and ARP head studs in? Seems odd just to pull a camper.
Another great mod for these trucks is a coolant filter. Some of the issues in the early 6.0's were coolant related. Change it as needed and don't let little particles plug things up.
How can the dealer prove that its a one owner and the guy was in his mid 60's?

The salesman said that their shop just did the studs and gaskets when they got it and the egr delete was already done. I was told by them that the previous owner pulled the camper and was in his 60's. I haven't gone to look at the truck yet because it is 2 and half hours away. I am just looking for opinions from people with more knowledge than myself. From the pictures it looks like it is really clean and in great shape so that's why I am so interested in it.
