White /blue smoke and losing coolant. 04 6.0
My 04 has 155,000 miles on it. Yesterday it started smoking upon startup mostly white with some blue mixed in at times. It is not constant. It seems to come and go. Maybe with the thermostat cycling? I noticed a little yesterday and a lot today. Today the coolant got low enough that the heat stopped working on and off . I think the heat stopped when the smoke was visible and worked when it wasnt . It is enough to be concerned about other drivers behind me. I added at least a gallon this afternoon.
It previously had new head gaskets and oil cooler. Probably 7-8 years back. It was my father in laws truck. He didn't do head studs at the time. Too bad. It had an edge juice w attitude . One of the early ones that was too aggressive on timing I think. It was removed at the time of repair and never reinstalled. It's been pretty darn good since then. A few sensors and maintenance is all. I was just last week getting prices from a few local shops for a coolant flush.
What do you guys think?
I just sold my 07. I hope I didn't make a huge mistake.
Anyone know a GOOD diesel shop in the St.Joseph, and Kansas City, MO area?
The only good one I know of is Louisburg Ford in Louisburg ,KS. It is almost 2 hrs away from me. They always fix things correctly the first time, but that's a long drive and then I have to get a ride back home.

Does deleting increase combustion temps?
Gut tells me it would be better on the engine than running soot through it.
any data on longevity without vs with egr?

Man being without this truck sure is making the wait on my ordered 2013 long! Wish I would have sold the 04 and kept the 07.

In theory egr does decrease combustion temps by reintroducing cooled exhaust gasses into the cylinder and cleans up emission output by burning up any left over fuel. However its usually done at steady cruising speeds. Deleting the system gets rid of a lot of problems with longevity of the oil cooler, turbo, headgaskets etc. deletes with studs and coolant filter really help keep your truck out of the shop and on the road.
