2004 F250 6.0 fueling system
I have a 2004 f250 6.0 diesel with 170,000 miles and still has original pump as far I know. my truck sputtered 5-6 times while idling, I then switched it off and later on 10-15 minutes it wouldn't crank. Could this be a fuel pump problem? And also where is the fuel pump located? Is it part of the fuel filter assembly under the driver door? Also when the frame mounted filter isoff and you turn the key should it pump fuel out of the housing?
Would fuel pump up in the motor mounted top filter with the cap and filter off?

On the front filter it filled immediately when turn key on and held the pressure after key was switched off, no leak down at all. I guess that rules out my fuel pump so on to more trouble shooting

does your oil pressure guage go up when cranking? it might take several seconds for it to move. if yes then you low pressure pump is good, I am thinking its the high pressure pump but a good scan would tell you for sure.
crank but no start.
to start you need:
1: Ficm firing, hear injectors buzz?
2: air, basically make sure turbo is not siezed
3: High Pressure oil, need 500psi to operate injectors
4: fuel, fuel pressure should be around 60+psi but it will start with less, damage to injectors below 50psi

I got the truck to crank and there was a loud knocking sound and the belt was jumping and the alternator pulley was moving up and down probably close to an inch, I switched the truck off and could smell something burning, tried recranking but wouldn't crank and run just tried to crank.
