I just changed my alternator from the factory 110 amp to 185 amp made by dc engineering. Drove about 3/4 of a mile from my house when the truck just shut off. Tried starting and nothing happens. Lights and gauges still work. Disconnected both batteries an tried again, same thing. Tried to read codes with my scanner, but would not communicate with computer. Any ideas? I don't even hear the glow plugs warming up.

 

check the battery voltage, below 8 volts the computer won't work.

Could be any number of things.

Does the engine turn over when you turn the key and just not start, or does it not even turn over?

If it is turning over, are you getting smoke out the exhaust?

What did you try reading codes with?

 

I need some help mean did the same thing. It cut off on me while drive and now it wont crank and my snap on scanner wont read the truck at all and ford laptop scanner wont either and when I turn the key on couple seconds later abs light service light come on and it say check guages
