Default Turbo whine?

Noticed lately that under a decent acceleration (15+ psi) I have what sounds like your typical S/C whine in addition to the redonculous howl of the P-MAX. At first I was thinking it was my P/S pump but I don't hear it at high RPM/low boost situations (downshifting, coasting), only when the turbo is spooling. I know I'm not hearing things because the wif hears it too. Only 10k on the turbo so I'm hoping that's not the culprit. Worst case scenario if it is, I still have my old turbo and a warranty until April if I have to send it in. Just seems odd, no play in the shaft, no unusual noises (other than the whine)

Hmmm. Boost seem to be normal otherwise? Nothing else running funny? It only goes up with boost, or does RPM seem to influence it at all? If you get up to overdrive and have the torque converter lock up, roll into it to build boost up and see if it still sounds the same.

Air leak?? Mine started making a "different" sound. Found the passenger side up-pipe bellows with a small blown out portion. Swapped in my "sneaky" pipe ...all is well.

Good thinking on that one Heavy Assault. Mine made a god awful whining noise when my up-pipe was cracked. No noticeable loss in boost either.

Add this whine on top of the the turbo howl, that's what I'm hearing

Have you replaced the driver's side IC pipe with a metal one?? Aftermarket intake (sig line doesn't say)?? I'd take a ride with you but CA is a bit far for me.

Have you done anything to the exhaust recently?? Any maintenance at all that could have changed something?? Change in the brand oil you normally use??

Last oil change was 2500 ago, Rotella synthetic as usual. Stock intake and pipes. As far as exhaust, yea a couple weeks ago I had to pull the straight pipe off for a couple hours to put the cat on for my emission inspection, but the gasket was still in good shape when I put her back on, no kinks, no obvious blowby.

I'm gonna see if my GoPro will pick it up today

I read that there is no shaft play, but if it's whining like that Cobra, I would be taking that turbo off and exercising the warranty. At a minimum, swap in the original turbo to rule out the PMax as the culprit. Better safe than sorry.

I had that same line of thinking but wanted to see what else had been done. It sounds like swapping in the OEM might be a good way to verify. If it's solves the issue then good deal. If not at least you clock some wrench time for your girl.

Maybe it's not AS bad as the Cobra, but you guys know how it is, it sounds 10x worse when it's your own pride and joy

Anyone?
