hard time starting

Default hard time starting

okay im having this problem on my buddy's truck and mine. hes got a 2005 6.0 king ranch and i have a 2006 6.0 both are non moded. the problem is it takes a good 5-8 seconds when we turn the key to get them to start this is after the wait to start light goes out. its about the same even when the motor is warmed up. ive owned a 7.3 for years and i just got a 6.0 so im new to 6.0s any help would be great im thinking its a glow plug issue. both trucks run great when idling or driving just starting its hard even in 100 deg heat we have this issue

forgot to add batterys are new and the starters are relatively new

FICM's test good on both trucks? If it's 100 degrees out the glow plugs don't even need to be working at all.

My truck has always been a little "sluggish" to start when it gets up near 90 or it's really humid out. It starts just as quick as it always does, just sort of stumbles to life instead of that crisp fire. Others have noticed this too, but it doesn't sound like what you're seeing.

The glow plug systems on these trucks are quite robust. My guess is you could completely unplug the GPCM and still get both trucks to fire up exactly the same.

When you first turn the key and you can hear the injectors buzz before you start, how does it sound? Since you both have newer trucks likely with newer programming it should start out slow and ramp up in speed. Can you hear this? They'll typically buzz past even when the wait to start light goes out.

yeah i can hear the buzzing in both and yes they keep buzzing after the wait to start goes away where is the gpcm located?

The GPCM's are on the passenger side valve cover, but I wouldn't even worry yourself with that right now.

Test the FICM's, the test procedure is at the top of the page for the 6.0 stuff, it's a "sticky" up there. Quite simple to do.
