Help purchasing 6.0

There's a dealership my way that has a 250 Im trying to pic up. It has a ford remanufactured 6.0 in it reasons un known. They're asking 23900 for the truck and i wont touch it until the come down quite a bit on price.
My issue is the 6.0 have notorious problems themselves. Im assuming ford didn't change anything and this remanufactured engine will have The same problems? The truck is 4x4 with 77,000 miles. What's a good asking price? Should i be weary of the remanufactured engine since the problem wasnt fixed they just dropped another engine in there?
What should i be looking for in the truck? If purchased what needs to be done to keep it as reliable as possible?
Or should i move on and try to find a 7.3?
Thanks for any advice and opinions

Take it from someone that owns a 6.0. The 6.0 is possibly the worst choice anybody could choose. My 6.0 put me in debt horribly. I bought the truck for $12,000 and I have $7000 in repairs in it. Don't do it to yourself. Mine leftme stranded 3 times and was pretty embarrassing.

Don't believe the 6.0 owners that tell you "oh my god it's awesome" those people are people who have money they don't care to spend on repairs.

:tu: Make your choice wisely, I can't make it for you.

Im a ford guy at heart but drive a dodge what's that tell ya? Seriously 6.0 CAN be great trucks if you have the money to make them good trucks. My uncle got lucky and had a 04 with over 100k and not one problem with it and he had pulled many trailers loaded, and.just done regular maintenance. Now my.buddy on the other had hasn't been so lucky Egr was replaced 4x at dealer under warranty, head gaskets, finally after it went up he did a Egr delete, oil cooler etc. Buy with knowledge. If you really want a 6.0 take your time do your research. You can also do an oasis report on thay truck and see what's all been done to it. There's a few guys on here who swear bu them and have had decent luck with them but only after putting money in them.

The 6.0s can be very reliable with minor mods, most important is a coolant filter and EGR delete, they are the main reasons people had problems with them. Hope you noticed that all the others that responded were Cummins guys and pretty biased. I wouldn't buy that truck because the price is out of line for wht you can get from a private party. Around here you can get an 07 King Ranch with around 100k miles for around $20,000.

Im not biased at all,I had a 7.3 and couldnt deal with the mpg and other issues it had so I tried a dodge and like it. I still like fords and have a ford vehicle. I said the 6.0 can be very good trucks if you read my whole statement, I love my uncles interior and ride quality, I didn't say to not buy it once I said make sure to research the vehicle and het an oasis report.

I didn't even see your post Stroker, started to type then had to go take care of something the back to typing. Very good advice with the Oasis report, if this is a mint King ranch with 77k then it might be worth it, but how mint can it be if they had to replace the motor that probably didn't even need replacing. I would never take my truck to a dealer, They are in it for profit and throw parts at it until the owner has no more money to spend, You could buy the Autoenginuity diagnostic program and it would be less then 4 hours of shop time at the dealer and you would sve a ton by doing the work yourself.

Also if you read my post an signature I'm not biased either. I own a 2003 6.0 and a 2001 5.9. If you noticed i bought a cummins becase of the prolems my 6.0 had. Im the farthest thing from biased seeing as how i still own and drive my 6.0 2-3 times a week.
