Help purchasing 6.0
There's a dealership my way that has a 250 Im trying to pic up. It has a ford remanufactured 6.0 in it reasons un known. They're asking 23900 for the truck and i wont touch it until the come down quite a bit on price.
My issue is the 6.0 have notorious problems themselves. Im assuming ford didn't change anything and this remanufactured engine will have The same problems? The truck is 4x4 with 77,000 miles. What's a good asking price? Should i be weary of the remanufactured engine since the problem wasnt fixed they just dropped another engine in there? What should i be looking for in the truck? If purchased what needs to be done to keep it as reliable as possible? Or should i move on and try to find a 7.3? Thanks for any advice and opinions Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using Xparent Green Tapatalk 2 |
Whoops my bad. Its a 2004 f250 s/c shortbed.

Take it from someone that owns a 6.0. The 6.0 is possibly the worst choice anybody could choose. My 6.0 put me in debt horribly. I bought the truck for $12,000 and I have $7000 in repairs in it. Don't do it to yourself. Mine leftme stranded 3 times and was pretty embarrassing.
Don't believe the 6.0 owners that tell you "oh my god it's awesome" those people are people who have money they don't care to spend on repairs. :tu: Make your choice wisely, I can't make it for you. |
Im a ford guy at heart but drive a dodge what's that tell ya? Seriously 6.0 CAN be great trucks if you have the money to make them good trucks. My uncle got lucky and had a 04 with over 100k and not one problem with it and he had pulled many trailers loaded, and.just done regular maintenance. Now my.buddy on the other had hasn't been so lucky Egr was replaced 4x at dealer under warranty, head gaskets, finally after it went up he did a Egr delete, oil cooler etc. Buy with knowledge. If you really want a 6.0 take your time do your research. You can also do an oasis report on thay truck and see what's all been done to it. There's a few guys on here who swear bu them and have had decent luck with them but only after putting money in them.

The 6.0s can be very reliable with minor mods, most important is a coolant filter and EGR delete, they are the main reasons people had problems with them. Hope you noticed that all the others that responded were Cummins guys and pretty biased. I wouldn't buy that truck because the price is out of line for wht you can get from a private party. Around here you can get an 07 King Ranch with around 100k miles for around $20,000.

Im not biased at all,I had a 7.3 and couldnt deal with the mpg and other issues it had so I tried a dodge and like it. I still like fords and have a ford vehicle. I said the 6.0 can be very good trucks if you read my whole statement, I love my uncles interior and ride quality, I didn't say to not buy it once I said make sure to research the vehicle and het an oasis report.

I didn't even see your post Stroker, started to type then had to go take care of something the back to typing. Very good advice with the Oasis report, if this is a mint King ranch with 77k then it might be worth it, but how mint can it be if they had to replace the motor that probably didn't even need replacing. I would never take my truck to a dealer, They are in it for profit and throw parts at it until the owner has no more money to spend, You could buy the Autoenginuity diagnostic program and it would be less then 4 hours of shop time at the dealer and you would sve a ton by doing the work yourself.

Also if you read my post an signature I'm not biased either. I own a 2003 6.0 and a 2001 5.9. If you noticed i bought a cummins becase of the prolems my 6.0 had. Im the farthest thing from biased seeing as how i still own and drive my 6.0 2-3 times a week.

Wasn't trying to sound like a a** just wanted to clear that up.

Lol. That's what figured i have no intentions of wanting a 6.0 i have a 7.3 service truck and love it but thought id ask the experts. The price is way out of retail but i could of talked them down. The truck just fit my criteria so i thought id ask. Id prefer a ford over dodge. And Ive owned many of both.
Guess ill keep my eye open for a 7.3 psd s/c shortbed. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using Xparent Green Tapatalk 2 |
And yea i love the cummins engines but i have a bad experiences with the dodge wrapped around it and the people who built it (the truck)

Sent from my DROID BIONIC If i may ask what mpg where u getting outta your 7.3? My work truck gets upwards of 14/15 mixed and it weighs almost 10k Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using Xparent Green Tapatalk 2 |
My 99 ext cab short bed,4x4 with 35 inch bag's, intake, exhaust, chip, gauges and o typically got 15-17 mpg no matter how I drove in town, and would get about 225-260 miles on one tank fill up every week.

Good idea! Keep your eye out for a good 7.3 if your sticking to ford. I love my uncles 2001 7.3, (i had to borrow it for 2 weeks when my 6.0 poope out) :argh:

I take care of my truck the best that I can. We all don't have thousands to spend on a shitty motor. Don't ASSUME you know me or how I care for things.
|
Then don't ASSUME we're all in the "those people are people who have money they don't care to spend on repairs" criteria. I've only put $5k worth of parts into my rig and it's only that much because I wanted some of the extra stuff (fuel/air separator and bypass filter eating up almost a grand of that). Head studs/gaskets/egr cooler/oil cooler/coolant filter will make these trucks very reliable and for a fair price, all of it can be done for $2800 if you do it yourself (not a difficult job but does require knowledge and time)

---AutoMerged DoublePost--- And dealing with a junk transmission is any different? No sh**, 7.3s are no different been there done that. They all get expensive but a 6.0 has a lot of potential for what it is. |
Imo that's super high price tag

Looking at the retail value of 18k, if i would of went for it i wouldn't of touched it unless they dropped it down to atleast that

call the bank you use and ask them the loan value of it if you really want to buy it. that is the true value.
|
how am i on a high horse? i didnt have 5k to spend on the engine as soon as i bought it. not many people have 5k after spending 13k on a truck. dont get me wrong, my 6.0 drives and runs great.. when it wants to. but i just got tired of dumping money into it. if i wouldnt have had the problems i would probably be driving it right now because it wouldve lasted longer than it did stock. yes they have potential, but i dont like the idea of buying a truck thats supposed to be made right, then dumping money into it just to get it to run right.. kind of defeats the purpose of buying it :humm:

I'd sell you the truck in my sig for that price and give you all of the bulletproof stuff sitting on my table with it, and keep the vegistroke on it too. Have an extra set of heads already milled, gaskets, all the Ford update parts etc... :w2:

I do. That's my point, everything has a price, and for that price I'd be willing to let mine go. Been wanting a crew cab anyways. I'd probably go to a 6.4 if I got rid of this, just because of how easy it is to make power with them. Just picked up a TDI this week, so don't really need the good mileage from the vegistroke anymore either. :c:
|
I'd love a TDI but I'm not really small car friendly :nope:
|
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!! you'll be sorry! :scare2: IMHO Fummins.
Ford truck + cummins= perfection |

You'd be surprised. You might be a little tight in the older body styles, but the newer one's you'd be fine. Try sitting in one sometime. I have plenty of room to move my seat back even farther than where I sit in my 02. If you're ever over this way give me a hollar!
