Default cracked head test

ok do any of you guys know a way to test if a head is cracked into a coolant passage with the heads still on the engine?

we done head gaskets on one 2 months ago and now its filling the coolant res with fuel. just started it a couple days ago. in this time frame the guy has put a little over 40,000 miles on the truck....he is a hot shot hauler. everything was fine until 2 days ago. when we done the gaskets both of his heads were cracked so he ordered in a pair of heads from clearwater so the cups shouldnt be the issue but if any of you guys has a way i can determine which head is the problem then if its the cups or a crack please let me know.

ok so after thinkin about this for a couple hours could i seperate the fuel lines to where i could put air to each head one at a time and then watch the coolant pressure to see which head let air pressure into the coolant?

I'm not sure what else it could be, there really isn't any other way for fuel to get into the coolant... I think I'd be pulling the heads for a magnaflux job and pressure testing myself.

I am not aware of a good way to test them in the truck though.

Spoke with clearwater today and they said to send them both back and they would test and replace them.

That's good to hear! Sucks about the down time though. I'd be interested to know what actually failed.

From what i found on the net and what clearwater said it is cracked from the internal fuel galley to a coolant passage. More or less a casting flaw. They said they warranty a few each year for the same problem even tho they pressure test them specifically for this problem. I thought it was awesome of them to even warranty them at all since thats not anything they actually have control over.

Yeah the down time sucks for the customer since this is the second cab off for him in 3 months now.

What does clearwater charge for a set of heads?

I think they were $550 each shipped exchange. 24 month warranty unlimited miles. Took 2 weeks for them to ship them. They said they do 2 sets a day and thats how far down the list i was. Ive also bought 12v heads from them for $585 shipped no core new casting which im sure its china but for that price a guy could go thru a couple.
