Quick Question!
Have had a problem with a '93 7.3L ford diesel(n/a). Missing sometimes and some blue/white smoke. There is a "sensor" that sticks out from the back of the filter tower. What is that "sensor"? When I disconnect it the missing seems to go away and the smoke is less. I know it is not the fuel heater as that is on the top of the filter tower. I am new to this board but have been wrenching on this engine for the last 10 years. First time I have had a problem of this type.

that is for your fuel filter lamp IIRC. whenthe filter gets clogged and fuel pressure drops your lamp will come on.
what are the specs on the engine? orginal injectors? injection pump?

The vehicle has had a reman IP and 8 reman injectors from our local ford dealer about 3-4 years ago (125,000) Had heads off to service because of broken off glow plugs, put injectors and a IP in at that time. Mileage is 160,000 at this point. Going to change fuel filter tomorrow. Just installed new glow plugs. Am going through vehicle to make sure it is serviceable for awhile longer. Think I have an injector going but can't tell which one. Opened lines at the injectors today and rpm dropped with all tries. Used heat gun at exhaust headers and all are within 10 degrees of each other. any info will be helpful. Thanks

Used a stethoscope and everything seems to be pulsing normal. Have felt the injector lines and they all feel the same. Even felt the pulses on the lines to see if one was not normal. Everything so far is checking out. Is smoking less and not missing until it get into the higher rpm(like in a snap test). Not sure what to do next. Engine seems to be running strong now that I have serviced it. Could it be that it is carboned up and not allowing an injector to "fire" right? All of your help has been informative. Great place to find things out. I am thankful for any and all help. Thanks
