1986 ford f250 6.9 diesel wont start
i just got a 1986 ford f250 diesel and when i got it it would run for a miute and stop i thought that it was just that i had to use the air valve on the side and pressure it up because he ran it out of fuel but then i noticed that it was leaking air from one of the injector sleeves so i got a whole injector install kit and put it in also the guy before me put a new fuel pump in and now when i pressurize it it makes a gargling sound in the tank... also wont run at all now

the scrader valve is to let the air out not to pressurize the fuel system you'll need to bleed the fuel system from all the air you put in. even though the previous owner replaced the pump it doesn't mean its working i've had bad lift pumps new out of the box before. the water separator set up used with the 6.9 is known to let air in also, what i did was bypassed the factory separator and put a fuel filter set up from a 7.3 in.once you've bled all the air out and are sure the pumps working and put a fresh fuel filter it should start and run unless the ip is junk or your leaking air from some where else.

Water separator is junk bypass it. an electric fuel pump would mask some air intrusions in the fuel and assist you when you run out of fuel. Clear fuel lines will help to locate air intrusions in the fuel.
Make sure the glow plugs are good and get hot enough. I'm sure there are a couple treads on here that state how to check them. Make sure you you have some good batteries (2). Engine has to spin over 100rpm to start. Don't crank too long. A starter is not cheap.

I am also having air problems with my 89 7.3. Its losing prime but usually only when im driving. What happens is the fuel filter light will come on after about 5 miles then it slowly starts running worse until it dies. I bleed all the lines and it starts back up and runs fir another five miles. I replaced the lift pump and checked the injection pump and the ip seems to be working fine because its getting fuel to my injectors. Im just not sure if its worn and and getting the hot spells but i havent tried pouring water on it when its hot yet. Could some one maybe steer me in the right direction?
