seem to lack power on hills

yes. timing will cause it. if they just stuck the new pump on and just lined up the static lines, it will run, but not to full potential. needs to be propperly timed with a meter.

ok, great now i need to find a meter or somebody with a meter! what a pain!

where in pa are you? there are a few peoplle i know with meters. i am one of them.....

ha as luck would have it i called a buddy of mine and one of his friends he works with had a meter they come over advanced it a lil for me and booyah it runs like a champ plenty of power egt's are running normal 600 cruising speed at 65mph still got some black smoke but not like it was it seemed to clean up alot. Oh and crawler i live in springboro pa i am bout 1-1/2-2 hrs north of pittsburgh! thanks for the help greatly appreciated

Glad you posted this. Except, mine is mainly with it loaded. Just don't seem to have any power with my horse, or hay trailer behind it. Of course, these are goodsized hills in SWMO. I realize my 6.9 ain't a monster motor. But, I'm gettin flipped off by grannys in geos. Wonderin if cuttin down the exhaust will help. I've got dual 3" run to glasspacks and cutoff there. Exhaust guy and mech at work said exhaust might need to be restricted some to bring torque back up. Still learning these motors, so your post helps.
