over heating my 7.3
it might have started with the thermostat but its more serious now. the truck wont idle and it definatly has powerloss when i pull started it i was almost keepin it to the floor to keep it running.. my first guess was air in the lines.. so i let it run a min or two but no change and then the overheating started... the trucks in really good shape and i only paid 600.00 for it the guy had no idea about desiels.
either blown headgasket or cavitated. no way to tell them apart cept to pull the bottom end out of it and pressureize the cooling system. looking into the cyls and see where the coolant is coming in at.
and yes, a 7.3 liter is just a bored out 6.9 with bigger head bolts. rods, crank, cam, ect are all the same except for the 7.3 idi turbo motors. they have bigger wrist pins so different rods and pistions.

Same here. Plus I think the 6.9's run smoother and are quieter. Ive driven several 7.3idi's and they always vibrate more and sound more annoying, and they cavitate
main reason for the sound expecially with a manual is a worn out dual mass flywheel.
good question i believe its stock on my truck---AutoMerged DoublePost---
all the 6.9's and 7.3's ive owned have been non turbo so this part is definatly new to me
