Default Valley Drain

I am going from a 6.9 to a 7.3 in and 85 f-250, both engines are non-turbo. Both engimes have open holes in the valley drain plug and oil does come out of the one in the 6.9 , is this normal or should the holes be plugged

no, do not plug that. it is the drain for anything that sits in the valley. if anything make sure it is a clean drain.

Thanks , doesn't that contaminate the oil with dust and water if they get up there? and what happens if you do plug it other than the valley won't drain . Just asking so I know

there should be a "plug" in it, but the plug has a hole in the middle. the hole should be square in the middle. uses a 3.8 ratched to remove the plug. that plug holds the back of the vallley pan down. the hole in the middle actually drains to the top of the bellhousing. nothing in that hole can get into the motor. if i can find a pic i will show you.

take a coat hanger or welding wire and shove it threw that hole. it will pop out on the top of the bellhousing.

I had tried that this morning and saw what you meant about it draining out ontop of the bell housing. Thanks again for you answers and help and have a great Christmas. Lew
