I talked to the previous owner and they said they put a new pump on it. So I guess I need to check the gear and get the tool. How do I see or know if there is an air intrusion???

Usually you will see fuel seepage where the air is getting in, sometimes though air just gets in with out letting fuel escape. The most common area though is the injector return lines. Look and see if any of the plastic caps appear wet. Make sure your fuel filter is tight, and check the fuel lines that run from the pump to the tanks. Sometimes they get rubbed through.
Wha Choo talkin bout willis!?! Glow plugs? Motorcraft/Beru plugs are the best plugs for these motors. Other brands are known for swelling and breaking off inside the motor. Some people get lucky and never have a problem with them but I have read enough "my Autolite glow plug broke off in the head" posts to avoid them.
