Injector Pump Timing

Can anybody tell me how to put my injector pump back in time????

What have you done? Was the gear removed, do you just need it checked? You need a special tool that senses the injection pulses to time the motor properly.

you can put it in time so it will run if u line up the factory dashes on the IP and IP gear housing. but still needs the special tool to set it to correct setting.

ok, idk. I bought it like that. It doesnt seem to get fuel when I start it and then once I get it started it still seems to not get enough fuel. It takes me squirting just a little starting fluid to get it started.

Hard starting could be glow plug or air intrusion issues. Your lift pump could be getting weak as well. When was the fuel filter last changed?

idk, i havent changed it. of course i havent had the truck a month. I guess I should change that and the oil and get the plugs from Diesel Crawler if he still has them

I talked to the previous owner and they said they put a new pump on it. So I guess I need to check the gear and get the tool. How do I see or know if there is an air intrusion???

Are there special plugs we can be using that will give us better performance?

A new lift pump or injection pump?

Usually you will see fuel seepage where the air is getting in, sometimes though air just gets in with out letting fuel escape. The most common area though is the injector return lines. Look and see if any of the plastic caps appear wet. Make sure your fuel filter is tight, and check the fuel lines that run from the pump to the tanks. Sometimes they get rubbed through.

Wha Choo talkin bout willis!?! Glow plugs? Motorcraft/Beru plugs are the best plugs for these motors. Other brands are known for swelling and breaking off inside the motor. Some people get lucky and never have a problem with them but I have read enough "my Autolite glow plug broke off in the head" posts to avoid them. :td:

ok, there is fuel leaking around 2 injectors. would that be it???

Sycostang67 03-26-2010 03:22 AM

Yup, that would be your o-rings leaking. Get yourself a return line kit, preferrably one with viton o-rings.
