94 f350 fuel tank question

The tanks in these trucks should be in the neighbor hood of 16 gallons each. This seems to hold true every time I fill up. I get more fuel when I reach 1/4 tank and usually add 12-14 gallons back into each tank. The pickups in the tanks are prone to breaking off causing you to start sucking air at about 1/4 tank. When you say you ran dry, did the guage read empty as well? Also, an easy way to increase your capacity is to replace the rear tank with one from a bronco. The bronco tanks hold 32-38 gallons. You would need to get the sending unit and pickup tube for a bronco as well. The only down side to this is you can't mount your spare under the truck...if you still do.
