what is the differance between the E40D and the 4R100 transmission

what is the differance between the E40D and the 4R100 transmission
My transmission died today and I was wondering what was the most cost effective replacement or rebuild that would give me a longer transmission life. Also are the E40D and 4R100 exchangeable?

i think the difference is the E40D is electric and the 4R100 is not, this is just a a guess and i am not 100% sure on it. I would say just look at the prices to get it rebuilt that would probably be the cheapest and best way
