Well you can get a "Moose Pump", which makes for tons of power and is very well built/rebuilt. Google Moose Pump and track Mel down....he can help you out.

Turbo and intercool the unit. There are injectors available they run about $125 each....custom made by a tractor puller who does custom work.

Port the heads, CC the pre-cups and if you want lower compression by milling the pistons. That lower compression makes for more difficult start if you lower it too much.

I would not go less than 18.5:1 for warmer climates.....

With stock compression, turned up pump good injectors, decent intercooled turbo and exhaust, I see no reason why you cannot hit near 250 HP 230 for sure....

Power can be had out of the 7.3 IDI. Intercooling is no easy task. Cylinders #3&8 are known to cavitate. You'd better be running a SCA in your low sicilate antifreeze to help prevent this.

You'll never reach the hp potential/fuel economy that a 12 valve Cummins will give you. Check out: www.cummins-conversion.com for more help there. I bought a 93 model for 800.00 on craigslist last year, but sold it to get a trailer. I bought a complete motor for the 800 as well, but sold it cause I needed the cash to pay bills. One day a Cummins will be under my hood....one day!

One beautiful thing about these engines are that you can run them on horsepiss and motor oil. I blend my fuel with filtered/settled/dewatered veggie oil, and have been running both tanks like this. No hiccups, misses, hard starting, etc. Prechamber engines are perfect for running blended veggie/diesel. Ask me more when fuel hits 5.00/gallon again. That will happen again, so get prepared. Some dirty Arab will end up blowing up a pipe line somewhere, and it will shoot up overnight.

dang this inda sucks. these 7.3 idi's can be had for cheap. and everyone wants the cummins which is killing the good deals currently for swaps. like i know of a F450 right now with a 7.3 and a zf5spd for $1k and im tempted but the motors seem limited without putting $1500 in upgrades for only minor gains

man id go with the IDI motoe if ya asked me, i love my 7.3 and never have had a prob with it, yes the power is there, with money and a little time, you can get it, yes the cummins would be cool, but i love the idi, plus its something you dnt expect, i would certainly respect it more, "dare to be different"

Amen, the IDI offers something the rest can't comprehend - reliability.

Smoking everything on the road with an undrivable PSD - about 6mo. hard labor.

Towing your friends broken PSD home behind your underpowered, unapreciated IDI - priceless!
