Default Diesel in Distress

Hello everyone, I've got a 6.9idi that was put in a 1989 F250 to replace it's original 7.3idi about 6 years ago. The problem is it was parked for a starting issue by my grandfather 4 years ago and I just bought it. Made sure it turned, bought 2 new batteries for it and went to start it and all I heard was a click (I'm guessing the solenoid) along with the clicking of the glow plug relay. Thw starter didn't appear to be working. What I'm wondering is what should I do before or after I replace the starter to get her going again? I was debating on either putting seafoam, and diesel 911 in the fuel tank with the old diesel or trying to siphon the whole thing first. Also should I bother with new coolant and new oil before I try to see if I can get it going. I know the air filter should be done too. But I'm not used to working on diesels. THANKS!

I would put something in the tank, maybe even some of the algae eating diesel 911. I would also get a new fuel filter, and fill it with ATF before you install it. The ATF will help to clean out the injection pump and injectors. You can wait on the oil and coolant to see if it will run first. I wouldn't go driving it around to far until you change the oil though.

Newby to diesel bombers. I have 1997 GMC with 6.5 turbo. problem is, when leaving town my truck started bucking/ surging. rpms go up to 2000 then drops to practically nothing over and over as long as truck is running. There is no response from throttle just constantly revs up and down. changed fuel filter and bleed out air. still same issue continues. I replaced pmd with s&s diesel fsd w/ heat sink 6 years ago and relocated it to the top of air plenum as instructed. Also has K&N air filter. otherwise stock. Truck is over fueling extremely. Black soot fills neighborhood as soon as I start truck. I am currently chasing fuel system for air in system, in-between rain showers. only codes are for engine over speed and fuel solenoid slow response. Has history code for P0101 mass air flow sensor that was replaced 6 months ago, with check engine light going off after new MAF. Checking out lift pump and for air in system, was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. If no air found in system and lift pump ok, hate to start replacing PMD's or IP or Injectors blindly. Truck starts right up, (even at 30 below this past winter when block heater was plugged in) Has no stalling or dying issue. just runs away with it's self. I don't suspect any wiring issues currently due to no codes for any of the sensors. Any help would be appreciated.
